I was blind. We all were.

In two words, the killer is revealed.
The duality of Hero and Villain.

Their names are a palindrome (minus the N).

Dale Leland

D a l e L e l a n d

D a l e L e l a D

Remember our first truly compelling clue? Remember the looks on Harry and Dale's faces when Dale tweezed the letter R from beneath Laura's fingernail? We learned that a T had previously been found under Teresa's fingernail. The name Robert was being spelled out - backwards.

The palindrome and semi-palindome have precedents in Twin Peaks: all the tape-reversed, phonetically backwards speech,
and WOW BOB WOW .

----

A dale is a broad valley.
A lea is an open area of grassy or arable land.

Dale and Leland
are synonyms.

----

Leland and Dale live parallel roles in the cycle of events. Annie tells Laura, "The good Dale is in the Lodge, and he can't leave. Write it in your diary." Dale faced his Dweller on the Threshold, his doppelganger - and he lost control. Now he is possessed as Leland was, as the one-armed man was, and Mr. Robertson up at Pearl Lakes where Leland summered with his grandparents.

----

Still not convinced? Are you telling me that [Dale Leland] is a coincidental set of letters? Well, shame on you!

David Lynch is a genius. You think you know that?
He's more of a creative genius than you can dare to believe.

Watch this:

DNA Leland

THAT'S A #√†π∑®-∫√©ß!ñ' PALINDROME. Nine letters.

Q.E. to the D.

If Laura's murder had occurred a few years later, Leland's DNA would have been easily detected at the crime scene. He avoided leaving fingerprints, but took no special precautions against leaving DNA. In 1989, DNA analysis using RFLP required large samples, took a long time to get results, and was not a widely-used as a forensic investigative tool. PCR replaced RFLP in the mid-1990s, and made DNA identification practical for catching criminals.

If PCR had been available, the DNA Lel and left behind would have immediately corresponded as a first-order relative to Laura's DNA. Voila, the story is finished, the crime is solved before Leland's hair can turn white; before Dale ever gets his first slice of pie.

DNA Leland...... from Hour One, from the beginning, all along.

Gee - nee - us.

Be humbled, every last Fan of Twin Peaks.

If you ever think you are a genius,
reflect on DNA Leland
and on Dale Leland,

Let David Lynch's true genius tame your ego.
