That much of your valuable time and money are you wasting here? Last time I
checked, less that 1% of the postings were not in English.
I already agreed that English is the main language of the Net and all, but I
respectfully think you're exaggerating a little here. I don't mind
downloading some messages in, say, Swedish, even if I undestand them less
than if they were written in Klingon.
So why do you always sign 'Peace & Love' right after slashing someone or
something? (Rhetorical question.)
Adiós.

No. After all, you wrote in plain English. ;)

You're right on that. But the parcentage is still ridiculous.

Comprendo.
Anyway, I didn't say I disagreed entirely with you, I just thought (and
still think) that you're taking it out of proportion. I'd be in Heaven -make
that the White Lodge- if other NGs had as little 'disregardable' (your
opinion, not mine) postings as this one.
Maybe other people can give us their oppinions on this, and if many think of
it as passionately as you, we others then would be morally bound to do
something about it. Fair enough?

Mazel tov, y'all.
Ok, here is my opinion on this: As a general rule, I do not have a problem
with people posting in other languages. They have every right to do so.
However, I also feel very left out of whatever discussion they are having.
I see these on-going threads and I wonder what they are talking about, is it
something that I would like to know or perhaps could contribute something
to. I believe the purpose of the newsgroup is to share with the whole group
and not to just have a "conversation" with one other person. That is what
e-mail is for. I guess it just seems more courteous (that's not the word I
really want, but now I can't think of what it is) to post things to the
group that the entire group will be able to read.
But I restate- people have EVERY RIGHT to use their native tongues, and I
see no purpose in continually being rude and complaining about it.

>Ok already! I speak KLINGON, would anyone/everyone be impressed if I
>posted in that?
I wouldn't be impressed, but I wouldn't have anything against it either, go
right ahead and post in whatever language you desire. No skin off my back...
>I thought this was a Twin Peaks sight, not the United Nations.
Yes this is a Twin Peaks _newsgroup_ not the United Nations :-)
>Let's get back to Log Ladies and BOB and the Lodges!

>IN ENGLISH PLEASE! I know it's not the planetary standard, but it would save

I don't mind writing in english, actually I prefer it over my own, first,
language when it comes to discussing Twin Peaks. Though I don't understand
why you have such a problem with people that doesn't write in english. if
people wants to write in swahili, swedish, klingon or whatever. Let them.
No biggie. I don't see the problem? As you say english is not "planetary
standard" and this newsgroup isn't exclusively for those who speaks (writes)
in something other than english. And even though someone may be able to
speak (write) in english but sometimes writes in some other language, then
so be it. If I speak for myself I have only written in an other language
than english when it haven't concerned anyone other than people that could
understand it. "it would save a lot of time and BS-ing around with this NG."
How would it save time? How would it stop "BS-ing around with this NG"? I've
never seen it, and still don't, as a problem. Things are what you make em,
nothing more nothing less. You make it a problem.
>You people bitch if you have to "waste time" downloading a "flame"
I don't bitch about it. I download posts, read through em roughly and thrash
the things I don't want to read and then save the rest to read.
>how do you think it make's people feel to waste valuable time & money to
>see a post in Yiddish or Swahilli or whatever!
Non-moderated newsgroups are open for people to say and write whatever they
like. Sometimes that's good sometimes not. I don't like spam, flames and
postings about things that are of no interest to me. But if I don't like it
I skip them. I can't believe that there is a problem for anyone to just
delete posts when they see that it isn't in english/of no interest to them.
>As I mentioned before, would it be asking too much to use a
>word, phrase or symbol to indicate a foreign language posting?
This I can agree with. That's not to much to ask, if the whole post is in
another language than english than some sort of symbol/word would be in
place.

Hehe... "kind of fun"? :-)

That could be a good idea. Though I wan't it to stay just with that. A
code/word for foreign posts can be useful but I just hope we don't end up
like for example like the australian x-files newsgroup that have like 20
codes for different kinds of posts.....
I don't agree at all. The Nazis in WW2 made the Jews wear the star of david so that people could
see that they were jewish; is this what you want to do? For fuckssake let people post in different
languages if they want to (but email would probably be more appropriate for extended threads...).

How much does exactly your time value? Because we're talking about, what, 10
seconds in a week to dowload the massive amount of foreign language postings
that are making this NG virtually impossible to understand for an
English-speaking person?
>Am I asking too much for a simple means of

As I told: let the people speak. So far you're 0/3 -maybe it's you who
should reconsider.

No, just a very rude person.

Yeah, right. That would be a great next step.

Do you think that's comparable? Also, 'us' has until now turned only to be
'you.' Or are you speaking on behalf of the 'silent majority'?
>Someone mentioned that they posted in a foreign language so ONLY those

Maybe if you toned down a little some people would take the time to think
upon what you're saying, but 'Sorry paranoid person' isn't the kind of
opener that makes you think 'Oh, there might be something interesting here.'
I can't wait to hear your next insults.
>Peace & Love, Brian & Cris Dennison
All in all, it would be a great idea if you indeed posted in Klingon.

YES! I think it's one of the rudest things that people can do! I was in Changi Airport in Singapore
when some fukhead from Indonesia came up behind me and said to a friend of his "Bloody westerners,
what are they doing in our continent?!" I went off at him in Indonesian, and I doubt he'll go to
another country and discriminate against his fellow visitors in the near future... :)

LOL, agreed; mea culpa. I know yr not a nazi, and I do see your point. I just think you could
possibly be a little more patient cause there are hardly any posts in languages other than
English...

Every language is a foreign language (to somebody).
Me.
(You can quote me, using any language you please. If you're in California,
please use Spanish as often as possible, especially in school.)
My $0.02 is that the only reason to assume English (actually, YankSpeak) is
the default language of this group is because TP was produced in English,
and that's the format most readily available. I've not seen anything in
Usenet, or elsewhere on the Net, that says "Talks English or Die, Buster!"
While I support keeping things sorted for the sake of everybody's
efficiency, I absolutely do not want to see the Usenet arena degenerate
into just another McWorld where the Yanks rule the language and the
culture. Gags me just to think about it.
Vive le différance, y'all!
As I wouldn't put it any better than you yourself did, with your permission
I'll take your posting as my final statement on the matter. I assume 50% of
the responsibility, apologize sincerely for all inconveniences to you and
other damn fine people in this NG, and from now on shut my trap on this
thread. Now let's get back to what we truly like!
