Various people on the show have used the phrase "code word clearance". I
have a question about that phrase. I understand the levels of clearance, at
least up to Top Secret, and the concept of SCI (Specially Compartmented
Information). There may be specific projects/programs, identified with a
specific code word, where some clearance beyond general Top Secret is
required. But those are usually handled individually (i.e. compartmented)
so that a person could be allowed to get information about one project
without having the clearance to get information about some other project
with a different code name/code word. Is "code word clearance" some level
above that where one is allowed to get information about all code named
programs? Or is it a misnomer in the writing? Or something else?

Not sure about your specific question but the military has "Need to Know"
rules. So basically you could have a Top
Secret clearance and you would not be allowed to have access to any Top
Secret info.

It is a misnomer...

Something that sounds cool on TV... I knew stuff when I was in the Army that
I am sure lots of people with TS weren't privy to...

Just because you have a security clearance doesn't mean crap... A person
with a TS or S or C isn't going to be handed everything that equals that
clearance level... What matters is that there is a reason for you to be let
in on something, and you have the clearance.

No. "code word clearance" is catch-all phrase to indicate that acccess to
the information is restricted by a particular code word.

I remember the episode where some characters were not allowed into a
meeting because they weren't cleared for that particular code word, but the
code word wasn't mentioned. They didn't say "You're not cleared for the
Frobitz project", they said something like "This meeting requires code word
clearance." If you're not cleared for the project you're not even supposed
to know that there is a project called Frobitz.
