There has been a lot of speculation that Sorkin killed off
Donovan for a ratings boost and also to stay consistant
with previous season finalies frought w/death.

and pissed off many fans...

Agreed. I have just seen that in the UK and the subplot had a lot going for
it. It could have revealed a new side to CJ but instead went know where and
killed off Simon for no good reason.
