I see that this question has been asked already, but does anyone know
if Emily Proctor (Ainsley Hayes) will be returning? Was she only on
contract for a few episodes or is she a regular guest star? I like her!

Since many of the recent episodes weren't very "Partisan Politics", the need
for Ainsley wasn't very high. I'm sure when they get back into those
political episodes, Ainsley will be front and center???

Oh, sure, like how she was prominently featured last night.

But the jist of yesterday's episode was not the discussion of the topics,
but to show Toby being all consumed with the topcis and then being
side-swiped by Felicity Huffman's character. They could have been debating
the merits of Cheez-Wiz and that would have been good enough to set Toby up
for his "grande mistake"

When they go back to having detailed discussions about specific topics
(where the topic plays a large plot point they will bring back Ansley to
show the conservative point of view to balance the Administration point of
view.

Hmmm... It just occurred to me that it would be *wonderful*
if the White House used Ainsley (with her permission) to "beat" Toby's
ex-wife sometime in the future...

Payback's a @#$%&@#.

huh?

toby's ex-wife is a democrat. she's on their side. she hasn't done anything to
screw them over.

i assume that you're talking about ann stark, who is not, afawk, an ex-wife of
toby's.

Some spoiler space for those who missed the 1/10 episode:

If the White House is about to "go to the mattresses" with the
Republican Majority Leader, as I think the last scene in "Rock, Paper,
Scissors" seemed to be setting up, Ainsley might get a lot more screen
time. Not only will she be called upon to act as a neutral ambassador to
the Congressional Republican leadership, but I expect to see at least
one more scene of her arguing with her conservative (ex-?) friends and
perhaps another storyline where her loyalty is called into question...

Just my $0.02...

<double take> Um, did you or did you not just say that last night's
episode of "ER" is setting Ainsley up for a lot more screen time? :-)

There's a simple explanation for that. I screwed up and
blended the two characters together in my head. But... what was that
bit with Leo about how he and his ex had loved each other and knew
they couldn't live together about then?

because at that point toby *had* been talking about his ex-wife. he was upset
that the republicans and democrats had rules about what they could and couldn't
talk about. he compared that to his and andy's marriage, where they were
allowed to talk about anything except why they couldn't live together. hence
leo's remark about jenny.

That's a good point. I wondered if they're going to go down that road
or not. We know Toby likes powerful women; we know he drinks too much;
we know he hasn't been overly successful in the past;("we" also know
he's one hot little number, but that's another conversation) IRL, he
probably could have been married a couple/three times.

maybe they were leaving the option open.

i could see him falling for her at some point in his life. if there wasn't a
marriage (which i doubt, because there's no way they could keep something like
that in their past a secret) or an old relationship there was definitely an
attraction there.

but, it's such a great conversation. <g>

Last weeks show wasn't about Conservative politics or really any ISSUES, but
to show the entire staff being sideswiped because they let their guard down.
And now we have the plot device of the Republican House Majority Leader
effectively running for president. last weeks show was to law the
groundwork for the rest of the season where the Bartlett will have to run
for the next presidental election.

Well-put... but I'd add: not just for the rest of this season, but for the
entire season following *and* the opening batch of season 4 episodes! --ph

Out of Superstition, I never assume anything beyond the current season (seen
way too many of my favorite shows fall by the wayside) but you are right,
I'm sure Sorkin has several seasons planned. Like an Emmy award winning
show in the top 10 is going anywhere soon, my superstition in this instance
is silly :-}

i'd stick with the superstition before i'd place any money on aaron having much
of anything planned too far in advance. the shooting last season was a first.
