I was watching the movie "Shane" last night and one of the characters had
the same voice as John Spencer. Heck, I thought it WAS John until I
realized just how long ago that movie had been made. Does anybody know what
kind of accent he has?

I always thought it was a wee bit o' Irish. That's my recollection from when
he was on LA Law.

Just checked IMDB and found out he grew up in New Jersey and New York. I guess
that would answer the question, no? And his real name is John Shepshok...not
very Irish.

John Spencer was born in 1946 in New York which is 4 years after I
was. His first movie appears to be War Games in 1986 where he played a
guy named Jerry. Two other movies I've seen him in are Twilight with
Gene Hackman, Paul Newman, Stockard Channing and Reese Witherspoon
[swoon] and The Negotiator with Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey. It
also depends on whether you're speaking about the TV series from 1966
to 1968 or the movie with Alan Ladd and Jean Arthur. The movie was
made in 1953 which would make our intrepid John Spencer 9 years old.
He apparently landed recurring a role on the Patty Duke show in 1963.
He also seems to have quit smoking in 1999. That's about a year after
I did. I quit cold turkey 2 years ago last March 30th.

Hey,thanks alot for saving me a trip to the internet movie database. I was just
on my way there to check and see if that was John Spencer. It was on the other
night and I started to watch it and I remarked to myself (which I often do since
I live alone and therefore there is no one to remark to) "hey, that guy looks
just like John Spencer"! I was going to go and check out but now I don`t need to

You're quite welcome.

Don't Forget "Forget Paris." He was a basketball referee.

He said on a television show a while ago that he is Irish and Czech.

I'd consider it second-generation-Irish....
It is quite reminiscent of my Pittsburgh Irish
relatives.... I even hear it occasionally in my-
self. 'Nuture-factor', I suppose...
He may have exaggerated it a shade in 'LA Law',
but it's East Coast Second Generation Irish...

Looking forward to the new season, and the best
to you all,
Pat Mateus

Which actor in "Shane" are you talking about? (You mean the
movie, I hope, not that dreadful tv show). The only actor
I can think of that would remind me of John's speech,
voice, and mannerisms would be the very capable Van Heflin,
who could pass as John's brother.
