Philips 28PW9616/05 TV intermittent barrel distortion

My Philips 28PW9616/05 Matchline TV has developed intermittent Barrel
Distortion. I was hoping that someone here may be able to point me towards a
solution to this. I have some basic electronics knowledge, but not with
regard to TVs. After phoning Philips they just said to send the TV to my
nearest Philips repairer. I know that doing this would probably cost a fair
bit, so thought I would investigate it further myself.
If anyone can help, or point me in the right direction to a newsgroup that
could help, I would be very grateful.
