Currently, I have cable but, they have no plans to offer HDTV. There are
five local stations up and running and like to receive them.

Anyone here live in RB? Any luck receiving an over the air signal? I
live near the Lake Hodges. Any ideas who in San Diego may know if there
is coverage in RB.

Hi John, dont know if this will help in your decision to go in HDTV, but I
live in South Orange County, CA and am receiving very strong DTV signals
from San Diego stations. Over the air, on antenna from Best Buy.

Carl, are you using an indoor antenna, or one mounted on your roof?
Also, is there a clean line-of-sight to Mt. Wilson from your location?
(I'm in Aliso Viejo, and am curious what kind of reception I can expect
when I hook-up my reciever)

Hi Dennis,
I have antenna mounted on my roof and I actually received San Diego broadcast
accidentaly. When I bought my Sony HDTV I had no other antenna than 9 years old
VHF /UHF /FM antenna from Radio Shack. I used that antenna primarily for FM
radio receptions in Aliso Viejo. Later I bought Channel Master Stealth - 6
element roof top antenna, which sucks, I had 4 San Diego stations but still only
3 LA stations (KTLA 5, channel 9 and PBS). I returned this antenna to Fry's
electronics and bought RCA 60" HDTV antenna - ANT 40U from Best Buy, for $99.99.
With this monster on my roof I have all LA channels except channel 13. I still
have 4 San Diego stations on my old antenna. (only if I really want
them, because I didn't really figured out how to bring 2 coax cables from 2
antennas into 1 HDTV receiver, without loss of quality)
I did not really received much from Mt. Wilson towers, my antenna is aimed
towards Newport Beach, from my roof , I can even see the broadcasting tower)
Live close to the new golf course.

The Telecommunications Act of 1996 expressly invalidates virtually all HOA
restrictions on outdoor TV antennas, as well as satellite dishes under 1 meter
in diameter.

Carl,

When you say roof mount, is that inside your attic or on your rooftop?
I'm not being sarcastic, but HOAs usually don't allow mounting antennas
on rooftops. I had mine in my attic for analog TV for years and it's OK,

similar reception to cable. Will it work for HDTV? I live in Laguna
Niguel. Is the antenna direction precise like a satalite dish? What
channels do you get from LA (or don't get)? Are there any cheap HDTV
converters out there. I heard RCA makes a DSS system with an HDTV
converter for about $600 but I already have DSS so I just want the HDTV.

You are right sir. I looked it up and you are right. My antenna is
going up, yeeha!!! BTW, I'm an HOA board member and this issue hasn't
come up yet since most people aren't aware. Will painting the antenna
affect it's performance?
