My dad has been eyeing this 1080p at Costco for a while now. I helped
install it the other night.

This is a quirky TV. It's been able to pull in the important digital
channels off a dollar store antenna without dropouts, including a
usually finicky WADL, but it will not let me tune into anything it
hasn't scanned, and there is no signal strength meter. So we're
missing Canadian Channels CBET-9 and CICO-32, ION-31, TCT-18, Ch 33
LP, and whatever happened to LPs 26 and 66, I know not, even on my own
stuff.

I noticed some brief pixilation during The NFL Today, but the picture
is otherwise superb. However, it is a pain in the ass to adjust
subchannel picture ratios. Several subs broadcast a 16:9 480i signal,
but the TV treats it as 4:3.

In addition, the buttons on the remote control are impossibly tiny.
Too many times already, we've tried to hit a 1 (because it is
mandatory to add the -1), and we hit the HDMI button instead. I'm
supposed to teach my folks how to use their TV, but I'm afraid that my
dad will rely on ZOOM and STRETCH while watching U-Verse. *sigh*

On my M260MV the signal strength is hidden under menu-help-system info.
My model also does not have a zoom mode, it only has "normal" "full" and
"stretch" for HD, normal is 1:1 pixel mapping, IE no overscan. Full scales
and crops for overscan, and stretch turns the image into stretch-o-vision
and crops the sides. For SD is has "normal" "full" and "panoramic", normal
is 4x3 pillarbox, full is stretch-o-vision for 4x3/correct for anamorphic
16x9, and panoramic is a non-linear stretch that stretches the edges more
than the center.

Hence if an HD channel is showing a 16x9 (or other WS aspect ratio)
windowboxed image I can't zoom it to full screen and similarly if an SD
channel is showing a letterboxed aspect ratio I can't zoom it.

All I ask is that the image touch 2 sides of the bezel at any given moment,
I refuse to crop, stretch, or otherwise butcher an image as some do. I don't
understand the asinine want that some (most?) people have that says the
image must always touch all 4 sides all the time.
