I am new to this whole DTV stuff. Currently have Dish Network. It seems
that most of set top boxes already have Direct TV integrated like the
Panasonic TU-HDS20.

Questions:

What are the best HD set top boxes?

In a thread in this newsgroup people are talking about some new box from
Panasonic. What is it? Why is it worth the wait?

Are there integrated HD boxes that also include Dish Network?

It seems thatDirect TV seems to have a better penetration with TV and Set
Top Box manufacturers?

Is this true? Wiil it change?Should I change to Direct TV?

Thanks in advance for any input. This is a whole new world for me.

I can relate to your situation there Charlie! I was faced witht the
same decision as you when I bought my TW56X81 several months ago.
I was content to wait for the "Toshiba"STB as Dish didn't support HDTV
in a way that would be compatible with my set. However, after a couple
of months waiting and still no Toshiba box, Dish came out with their
6000 receiver with the promise of a add on module for Over The Air HD
reception. Then I saw Charlie on "Charlie Chat" and he made the
remark that Dish had MORE BANDWIDTH than any other service and would
add more HD programing as it became available. With that in mind, I
opted for the Dish 6000 and recently purchased the $100.00 OTA module.
With alll the hoopla of changing modulation shemes etc, I liked the
idea of being able to change out a 100 buck module to receive the new
stuff...And currently Dish offers HBOHD , ShotimeHD, 24/7PayPer ViewHD
and an HD demo channel. Directv offers only HBOHD and a channel that
is a Demo by day and at 12 midnight eastern switches to Pay Perview
HD. Of course Direct has more sports etc....The only drawback for dish
is that you must have two dishes to receive all programing. One for
the 110,119 birds and one for either the 148 or 61.5 birds that carry
HD channels. With me , I already had a dish 3000 system . So when I
received my 6000 I swung the existing dish to 61.5 and immediately had
the HD channels. I had also ordered a Dish 500 with the 6000 and
installed it for the 110,119 birds......I had to connect the two
dishes with a SW21 on the outside of the house. That means that I
didn't have to run another wire through the attic....by the way most
of the other HD STBs for Directv will be made by Hughes and probably
will be the same receiver ....

Good Luck MD
