I'm tired of the newsgroup. I'm going to a moderated forum, so I won't have
300 posts be whittled down to 50 after my filters weed out the most common
annoyances, just to have half of what is left belong to spammers, racists,
and idiots who are obviously just giggling hysterically to see their crap
posted on the internet. To the rest of you, good luck.

I'm sorry that you wanna GO, Nova.

You add good comments.

I think that we all look at the individual comments and respond
accordingly.

Nobody tries to jam up any posts to render them meaningless.

Stay...just a little bit long-er.

I PROMISE you that any moderated group doesn't have the thinkers that we
do HERE.

Moderated groups suck. Say something the moderators don't like and either
your post doesn't get posted or you get banned from the site. It's much
better to put up with what you might consider annoying and stupid posts than
to have to deal with possible censorship.

I think she meant a web forum. There are a lot of them around and if
you do some homework beforehand you can figure out which ones would be
friendly and which wouldn't take kindly to a newcomer. Still, I can't
say that things have been that bad here other than for a few days so
I'm not sure why Nova is choosing to give up now. Perhaps she's gone
looking for her Taylor?

I'm sure there are friendly forums out there on the web but it's the level
of discussion that I bet matters to her most. A lot of the forums seem to
focus on love for certain players and not much in the way of game play or
discussing the inner workings of the show. My hunch is that is what Nova
really wants and I think she shouldn't give up so quick on this group. I'm
sure she realizes that there will always be times where you have to put up
with crap you don't care for here but you do have to take a bit of the bad
to get the best stuff. And you seldom get the best stuff in a moderated
forum. For example, I posted a few comments during BB this past season that
I thought were extremely tame and I got sent private messages from the
moderators telling me that they weren't going to post what I had written
because I had questioned other posters. To me that's crazy, especially when
people are posting incorrect info. Even Hunter who goes to extremes to look
up info would be frustrated to no end by a moderated group.

I've taken part in moderated groups and they're OK - just a different
flavor of group.

I try to avoid wandering too much (and I'm far from the worst here)
and generally give as good as I get. Part of it is a well established
schtick (I >have< after all been here since the beginning of season 2)
and have a certain standard to keep up.

I like to think I'm one of the better researched members here but if
somebody wants to killfile me I don't get too upset.

I'm sorry to see her go but confess I know all too well that some of
the more enthusiastic younger males may tend to drive the fairer sex
away. I did not get the feeling however that misogyny was what has
driven the fair Nova away and hope she'll re-visit now and then. I'd
say we are definitely friendlier than SS or Jokers.

Yes, that can happen. Some boards are extremely strict. I think the
realitytvworld forums can be that way. Some let anything go like
SurvivorSucks and others.. well lets just say they seem to be a bit
schizo.. (JU). If you find the right mix of people they can be a lot
of fun but it's a lot of work. Furthermore with many web forums it's
much harder to filter people out. With Usenet and a good newsreader
it's easy to filter out all comments from a particular poster or a
thread (or group of threads) that you aren't interested in. Not so
easy with most web forums.

If you think there's anything indelicate about the use of the word
"schtick" you obviously need further research in the meaning of the
word!

"Fire means Life" and "The Tribe has Spoken" are both part of JP's
carefully constructed schtick!

Well the first episode of Survivor I ever saw was the Season 1 finale
(!) but I felt I knew all the players as our local paper had been
publishing synopses every week. Can you imagine a big city paper doing
that now? The local CBS affiliate then re-ran one episode a day in
early September which I recorded every day then watched all of season
one over a single orgiastic (well not literally) weekend.

I was all pumped for season 2 and hated Jerri and Tina for what they
did to poor Kel. And moaned for Mike and cheered when Ogorkor
ferretted out how Debb had voted and won at final 10 on tie break
based on previous votes, duping them into thinking it was not Jeff who
had votes.

The rest as they say is history!
