Since I've already been guilty of posting a message referring to one tribe
as "the girls" and certainly meant no disrespect, can we agree that these
all mean the same and should not be taken as any kind of slam:

women
girls
ladies
females

Likewise:

men
guys
boys
males
dudes

Does it really matter what terms we use here? Will we have to be PC
throughout this season?

FYI, this online thesaurus says these are synonyms for WOMAN, but I'm sure
some people will find fault with a few of these:

http://thesaurus.reference.com/search?q=woman

Mrs, babe, bird, bride, broad, chick, chicken, companion, dame, debutante,
doll, doll, gal, gentlewoman, girl, girlfriend, inamorata, kitten, lady,
lass, love, lover, maid, maiden, mama, mate, matron, miss, mistress, moll,
nymph, old lady, paramour, partner, pigeon, rib, she, skirt, spinster,
spouse, squaw, sweetheart, tomato, tootsie, virgin, wife

To be fair, here is the other side of that coin:

ape, beau, beefcake, blade, bloke, boy, boyfriend, bub, buster, butch, cat,
chap, daddy, dude, fellow, gent, gentleman, guy, he, hunk, husband, jock,
lord, lover, macho, master, mister, old man, papa, partner, pops, sir,
spouse, stud, swain, wolf

We've been more PC than the contestants. A number of different guys have
referred to the other tribe as "the chicks".

I think that we can agree to let people call the survivors whatever
they want. If they don't respect a woman contestant, complaining
about calling them girls or women won't change anything. And I do
want to reserve the right to call men by certain masculine
obscenities. However, I must admit that I find it slightly bizarre to
refer to grown women like Deena, Janet, and Joanna as girls.

Hmmm, I believe at the Immunity Challenge Jeff referred to all of them as
"guys". I guess he hasn't gotten into this Politically Correct thing
either.

Jeff needs to take a gander at his calendar.

I think a declaration should be made, here and now, that those
possessing a Y chromosome should no longer be referred to as "guys."
They shall be called men or males.

The male equivalent of "girl" is "boy." Not "guy." A girl is a young, immature
female--a child. Calling a grown woman "a girl" can be diminishing and
dismissive. Much the way Butch (IIRC) referred to Ryan as "a boy." Or consider
the way white racists referred to grown black men as "boys." The words
themselves are not sexist, it's how they're used. And in this case, it's pretty
obvious that the men were contemptuous of the women and calling them "girls"
(including the older ones) was not meant as a compliment.

True, but many male humans will argue they're being complimentary (e.g.
claiming that means the female to whom they're speaking looks young) instead
of owning up to sexism. But it's a battle that I just don't give much of a
damn about anymore. I just don't respond to anyone who regularly addresses
me as a girl or as "hon," "dear," etc. anymore. They want something, then
they call me by my name or forget it. Unless it's the galldanged boss from
whom I need my paycheck.

I do think using "guys" for a group of men and women or a group of boys and
girls is now PC. It's also slang and makes the speaker sound either (1)
uneducated or (2) determined to come off as cool, which of course just makes
them look uncool.

OK, But I was referring to the IC when they all (females included) got
together. You know, right before they all touched the Immunity Idol.

Blah, blah, blah... You're getting way off from what I was talking about.
I was just referring to the fact that JP called them all "guys" even
though there were women and men. I could just hear one of the women
saying "I'm not a guy!". But I also disagree with your thought that
"girls" is that derogatory of a term. To me it's not that bad and I feel
sorry for someone that's that uptight about it. Just look at "The Golden
Girls". Surely no one thinks they are young or immature. Or how about a
phrase like "Girls night out" or "Girls just wanna have fun". I'm sure
there are many other examples that I just am not thinking of (at 2AM).

While I'm sure it must depend alot on how it is used or how it sounds as
to whether it's derogatory I'm glad I don't live in your world. I think
there's plenty of more important things to get uptight about. So if you
and a group of female friends stopped at a convenience store to get some
bottled water and the store clerk said "So where are you girls headed
tonight?" you would ignore him and walk off?

> I do think using "guys" for a group of men and women or a group of

Ahhh, well, while I don't have a problem with it I had figured that it
wasn't PC. I could envision a woman complaining more about being called
a guy than a girl.

Yes, which would make me think it would be worse than calling them girls.

The female tribe referred to the male tribe as "boys" at least once,
so I guess they're even?

they're used." That was the point, I'm sorry it wasn't clear enough for you.
