(Cross-posted to the four Stargate groups that I have on my UseNet
server account .... to try to inspire some activity there!! ;-P )

Free-to-air T.V. is getting a little bit boring so I thought I'd start
binge re-watching my Stargate Cube of fifty-odd DVDs .... and a good
place to start would be with the "Stargate" Movie ... and I may have
come up with a bug!!

My impression was that "Stargate" and the following T.V. series,
"Stargate SG-1" were all, basically, based in The Milky Way Galaxy (i.e.
our Galaxy) but in the film, when 'they' work out what the seven symbols
in a StarGate address represent (six symbols to determine destination
point and the seventh symbol is the origin point), they send a Drone
through the Stargate and one of the boffins says .....

"the device has locked on to somewhere in the Kalian Galaxy" (don't know
if 'Kalian' spelling is correct)

Is this heading off to the 'Kalian Galaxy' foreshadowing the later "out
of this Galaxy" series .... even before 'we' had made it out into our
Galaxy ... or is it just a stuff-up?? ;-P

The original cinema movie and the TV series are really two
semi-separate entities. The TV series changed a few things from the
movie, even down to the name of the Jack characters surname: in the
movie it is "O'Neil" (on L) while in the TVseries it is "O'Neill" (two
Ls).

At one point there were plans for a sequel movie to the original which
would ignore the TV series, but that idea seems to have disappeared.
There are persistent rumours of Stargate getting an idiotic "reboot"
attempt.

Yes. The orginal film is said to describe a gate travel to the other
side of the universe. As Your Name stated it is a separate continuity.
So, not canon in context of the TV shows.

In SG-1 and it's spinoff shows later added an 8th symbol to travel to
other galaxies. One was the Pegasus galaxy (still within out local group
at a distance of roughly 3 million lightyears) witch is the setting
mostly of Stargate Atlantis, and the galaxy were the Ori came from was
featured in the closing two seasons of SG1.

A ninth chevron led to a ancient starship billions of lightyears from
Earth in the second spinoff Stargate Universe.

*WHICH, obviously. It's getting late and part of me is already asleep,
and probably thinking of Halloween.

Good night all!

Zzzzz....

Ah!! O.K., I guess I figured SG-1 was a follow on to Stargate!

Not in the sense of direct continuity. You can see it as an alternate
timeline of the same multiverse.

For instance, the Ra in the movie didn't look like Goa'uld and that name
didn't even feature in de film. Ra looked more like an Asgard. But
wasn't referred to as an Asgard, because he wasn't. :-)
