GateWorld has a new poll on their front page -- relax, no ship
involved (well, yes, there is A ship):

http://www.gateworld.net/

(Look on the right hand side of the page.)

Which of these would you most like to see as a spin-off show?

Stargate Trainee Academy
Stargate Prometheus
Stargate: Free Jaffa
Stargate: Tok'ra Resistance
Stargate: The Ancients (Prequel)

I had the exact same thought. YECH to all of them! So much for future
character-driven stories, with options like those.

Stargate: SG-13, about a team of Air Force personnel who go through the
stargate every week to explore new worlds.

I'd favor STARGATE: THE NEXT GENERATION set a few years, 4-10 years,
after the stargate was revealed publicly and dealing with the issues
brought up from the presence of aliens, advanced technology, space
exploration and colonization, to say nothing of advances in medicine,
farming--and deal with the social consequenes.

With the secret out, they can reveal an advance base on the moon,
supported and supplied using glider hybrids, aka "gli-bryds", establish
trade and diplomatic relations with alien societies.

Actually, that's the only one that sound interesting as it
is more in line with the movie, and early SG-1 episodes.

Put Dr. Jackson in charge of a science & research team
and let them explore worlds, solve problems, kill an
occasional Gou'ald, and such. . .

In a round about way, SG Aquarius is a prequel as they
are dealing with prior races, lost cities and such.

How else to explain the redshirts every week?

Joe (shaken): "Oh God!"
Bill: "What? What's wrong?"
Joe (hands bill his orders)
Bill (reading orders): "What? You've been transferred?"
Joe (distantly): "Keep reading."
Bill: "...you are hereby assigned to" (pause) "...SG-13."
Joe: "Do you know the average life expectancy of an SG-13 trooper?"
Bill: "No, but--"
Joe: "Six weeks. SIX! Laura's too young to be a widow."
Bill (whispers): "And too damn foxy, too."
Joe: "What?"
Bill: "Nothing. But look on the bright side."
Joe: "What?"
Bill: "I'll be there to take care of Laura."
Joe: "You promise?"
Bill: "Oh yeah."

More like "Fugitive" than "Sliders". The heroes were on the
run from the Tlak'khan because they'd found and hatched an egg
containing SG:I's version of an Ancient. Conveniently, the Tlak'khan
had infiltrated SGC with a shapeshifter and framed the team leader for
treason, so they "couldn't go home".

HORRIBLE animation "quality". Written for children, with plot
themes so simple and obvious even they would be bored.

But, they were there first with the cloying theme song. Beat
out "Enterprise" by a couple of years! <g>

"Ready?"

"Built by Ancients so long agoooo,
The stargate lay 'til we broke the cooode,
Now we travel 'round the galaxy..."

Get *that* out of your heads, fellow watchers!

Fine, I don't care if you hate my singing.

I love you.
You love me.
We're a happy SGC.
With a great stargate
A wormhole from me to you.
Won't you say you love me too?

Well, they could always have someone lined up in case that happened!
I, for example, am totally unbooked for the next 7 years and would be
happy to offer my services as Mistress of Discipline. :} Suzan (Kneel

ROTFL! OK, OK, OK, you win! Come and have a drink at the bar (we're
sitting there watching something ATM) and I will take the sign down.

Odd, they do have an opening on the SG-1 team they have yet to fill, but
nyah, you prolly wouldn't like all that green camo, living underground,
facing aliens and whatnot. Clearly that's too great a sacrifice to ask
of a civilian.

How about capitalizing on both current ratings trends (shows with initials and
shows about a forensics team)?

They'd sue.

STARGATE: EHI (Extraterrestrials / Human Investigations)

Set 5-10 years after they've gone public with the stargate. They
investigate crimes involving aliens on Earth, humans on other planets,
alien technology screwing up.

No, Stargate: Prometheus, then writers can chronicle Earths first deep
space voyage and meet some of the others like the Nox, Asgard, and
Furlings and explore more of those. Or better yet, the X-304 Legacy, the
sister ship to the prometheus can be the deep space vessel for the series.

You forgot how they discovered their own abundant source of vaquada
(variant-naquada), a power source capable of supplying enough energy to
power the Promethus for millenia, enough for a fleet of ships to protect
Earth, enough for them to go public with the stargate.

-- Ken from Chicago

P.S. Unfortunately the energy is not compatible with Ancient tech to
power the Artic defense weapon and exposure to stargates causes greater
than normal drainage. Negligible for normal gate usage but the
exponential drain prevents gating to Pegasus. (Oh come on, you KNEW that
had to happen!)

Well, I'd like it.....but I think the majority of other people think
that Trek did it first, and better. I'd rather watch that though, than
Atlantis. Shepard is starting to grow on me in the sense that I no
longer have nightmares....but my eyes are starting to bleed ever so
slightly in the corners every time I see Weir. ;) Suzan

joke in this newsgroup was that SG-13 did all the laundry...
