The first official teaser trailer.

From ComingSoon.net ...

The first Star Trek: Picard teaser features a retired Jean-Luc Picard
---------------------------------------------------------------------
CBS All Access has released a new Star Trek: Picard teaser, featuring
a retired Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) as a voiceover questions
why the admiral left Starfleet in the first place. Check out the
teaser now in the player below!

Teaser Trailer: (1min 9secs)

<https://springboardplatform.com/storage/comingsoon.net/conversion/1738927.mp4>

Showrunner Hanelle Culpepper will direct the first two episodes of
Star Trek: Picard, the first woman to launch a Star Trek series.

The series also stars Alison Pill (The Newsroom), Harry Treadaway
(Mr. Mercedes, Penny Dreadful), and Isa Briones (American Crime
Story: Versace), Santiago Cabrera (Salvation), Evan Evagora and
Michelle Hurd (Blindspot).

Alex Kurtzman, Star Trek: Discovery showrunner and executive
producer for Picard, recently said that the new series is "an
extremely different rhythm than Discovery. Discovery is a bullet.
Picard is a very contemplative show. It will find a balance between
the speed of Discovery and the nature of what Next Gen was, but
I believe it will have its own rhythm.

Without revealing too much about it, people have so many questions
about Picard and what happened to him, and the idea we get to take
time to answer those questions in the wake of the many, many things
he's had to deal with in Next Gen is really exciting. 'More
grounded' is not the right way to put it, because season 2 of
Discovery is also grounded. It will feel more... real-world? If
that's the right way to put it."

CBS Television Studios will produce the series in association with
Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman,
Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman, James Duff, Patrick Stewart,
Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth will serve as
executive producers.

If Picard has retired from Starfleet, how come the series is still 'Star
Trek'??

And I'm asking this question in a week where I've just re-re-seen "The
Drumhead" which featured a retired Admiral investigating an explosion on
the Enterprise. ;-P

<snip>

Because Picard is a character int he Star Trek universe. The title
isn't "Starfleet: Picard".

Plus, the teaser (and the previous leak video) shows him in an
interview apparently at Starfleet HQ, so it's likely he got bored
making wine and is asking for his job back. It would be a rather silly
idea to make a series about him doing winery chores.

Why did Picard leave Starfleet? Because MeToo is still going in the 24th
Century.

The Deep Space Nine station itself wasn't on any sort of Trek either,
apart from when it relocated to alongside the wormhole in (IIRC) the
first episode.

The characters weren't just stuck on the station or in the Bajoran
system though. In later episodes they did also travel to other places,
including through the wormhole and to / from the Mirror Universe.

There is a "Starfleet Academy" TV series in development where they
might not go on any 'Trek' either (at least not in space, they might
go hiking or something) ...

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy
Announced in June 2018, and being developed by Josh Schwartz
and Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl) there are few details,
however the series is expected to skew towards the young
adult market and would follow cadets through Starfleet
Academy in San Francisco.

Could turn out to be just something like a Star Trek themed 'Gossip
Girl', or even a 'Saved By The Bell' knock-off where they're (almost)
always in school.

The current Trek is the worst Trek until the next Trek.

NITPICK! When they showed the Academy in TNG it was NOT in San
Francisco. It was across the Golden Gate from SF where they had
apparently leveled Mount Tamalpais.

They get it wrong on present day earth in "The Whale One" too.

The 23/24 Century version is actually easier to justify. Assume that San
Francisco annexed the entire bay area.

Precedent, from Larry Niven's RINGWORLD:

"Inevitably the cities had blended over the centuries, until place names were
only relics of the past. San Francisco and San Diego were the northern and
southern ends of one sprawling coastal city. But how many people knew which
end was which? Tanj few, these days."

It's supposed to be on the grounds of the Presidio, no matter where
lesser talents have moved it.

Yeah, that.

In STAR TREK IV (the one with the whales), neither Chekov nor Uhura
have any idea where Alameda is.

Once you have to cross the Golden Gate to get from San Francisco to Monterey,
I can see why you'd be hopelessly confused.
