Patrick Stewart is the new Bosley in Charlie's Angels reboot
------------------------------------------------------------
X-Men star and Ted narrator Patrick Stewart has entered final
negotiations to star in the upcoming reboot of the classic
Charlie's Angels franchise as both Charlie's and the Angels'
assistant, Bosley, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Stewart's casting in the role of Bosley marks an interesting
decision for the film as it was previously announced that
Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect), who will also be directing
and co-writing the film, would also be portraying the role
of Bosley, making it the first entry in either film or TV
franchise to feature more than one iteration of Bosley on
screen. The previous films starring Cameron Diaz (Shrek),
Lucy Liu (Elementary) and Drew Barrymore (Santa Clarita
Diet) featured Bill Murray (Isle of Dogs) in the first film
as John Bosley, while Bernie Mac (Bad Santa) took over as
John's brother Jimmy in the sequel.
Sony previously announced that the new Charlie's Angels film
open in theaters on June 7, 2019, but the studio has now
announced the film's release date will September 27, 2019.
Writing credits also include Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard
(writers and producers for the Netflix series Narcos).
The franchise began with a TV show that ran from 1976-1981
starring Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith and
Cheryl Ladd. There were two films, Charlie's Angels in 2000
and Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle in 2003, starring
Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu. The sequel added
Demi Moore.
In 2011, ABC premiered a new Charlie's Angels series from
Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, starring Annie Ilonzeh,
Minka Kelly and Rachael Taylor, though it only lasted for
four episodes before being pulled from the lineup.
The Charlie's Angels reboot will be produced by Banks and
Max Handelman via their Brownstone production company along
with Elizabeth Cantillon and Doug Belgrad who is
co-financing through his 2.0 Entertainment banner. Andrea
Giannetti will oversee the film for Sony.
It was recently announced that Stewart would be returning to
space with a reprisal of his acclaimed role Jean-Luc Picard
from Star Trek: The Next Generation in a new series for CBS
All Access that will act as a continuation of the
character's story. Stewart can also be seen in the upcoming
The Kid Who Would Be King, Joe Cornish (Attack the Block)'s
new take on the King Arthur tale, as Merlin alongside
Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible - Fallout).
