I've always wanted to do this... I'll review an entire season at a time,
starting with season one (obviously)

1.) "Encounter at Farpoint" I & II - This episode was the BEST pilot
for a series (trek) that I've seen. it grabbed my attention, although I
didn't like how half the crew wasn't there. [B-]

2.) "The Naked Now" - I saw this episode after seeing most of seasons
2-6, and I thought Data Drunk was pretty funny. The overall plot was a bit
of a snooze though. [C+]

3.) "Code of Honor" - This was a fairly entertaining episode WAY back
then. Now, when I watch the episode, I think to myself "Why did I even
watch that show?". If you ask me, there was a lot of sexism going on during
the first few seasons. Musta' been Gene's doing (OINK). [D]

4.) "The Last Outpost" - Probably the best episode of Season One, IMHO.
The Ferangi were introduced here, and they haven't changed a bit. Arman
Shimmerman played a Ferangi in this ep. It was just cool, I liked
everything. [A+]

5.) "Where No One has Gone Before" - Keeping in mind Weasel Crusher
starred in this ep, It was OK. The plot, effects, and people worked...
Including Wesley. [B+]

6.) "Lonely Among Us" - You know what? I don't think I've even seen
this episode... Damnit! I'll have to get it. [Not Rated]

7.) "Justice" - Oh la la! First of all, the girls running around in
those hot little... things just made my day. The Guys? Well, that's a whole
different story. This episode was kinda' neat. Wesley almost dies, Picard
was Great, "God" was cool, and I just liked it. [B+]

8.) "The Battle" - Wicked Episode! Picard had his first REAL character
development episode, and it was great. Seeing Picard go crazy was cool. I
didn't like, however, how the Ferangi was seeking Revenge. It was almost
like he wasn't concerned with profit, and stuff like that, but rather
vengeance for his Son. [A]

9.) "Hide & Q" - Kind of lame, if you ask me. Riker seemed pretty quick
to dump his friends to be a Q. And why was Tasha crying when she was put in
the "penalty box"? Give me a break, man! And Worf... Well, he was acting
like a monkey -I like him better now. [C-]

10.) "Haven" - Horrible episode. I don't think I need to say more. [F]

11.) "The Big Goodbye" - Everyone's favorite little munchcin saves the
ship again! Aside form that, it was pretty good. The story sucked, but
acting was good. So were the effects. [B-]

12.) "Datalore" - Second best episode of the season. Lore was cool, the
Crystal-thing was cool, and everything else was cool. [A+]

13.) "Angel One" - Can you all say "Suckedshitola"? A female-controlled
planet? [D-]

14.) "11001001" - How many times is the Enterprise going to be
hijacked? This episode was ok, I guess, it kept me entertained. [C-]

15.) "Too Short a Season" - Picard was good, the Admiral (Dunno his
name) was lousy. didn't really like how he used whatever he was using to
stay young though... But, for some odd reason, this episode worked. It must
have been Stewart's acting that saved it. [B-]

16.) "When The Bough Breaks" - Great show! Probably sits at # 3 in the
season. Even Wesley was.... ok. A little to many dramatic/tragic-child loss
scenes, but other than that it was fine. [A]

17.) "Home Soil" - Kind of funny episode. a "microbrain" race of aliens
declaring was on humans because they didn't listen? I liked it - wasn't the
best, but I liked it. [A]

18.) "Coming of Age" - Shit. That's all it was: shit. [F]

19.) "Heart of Glory" - Hmm... I guess I didn't mind this show... But
isn't it odd how Two people can seize a ship? [B]

20.) "The Arsenal Of Freedom" - Oh Gawwwwd! [F-]

21.) "Symbiosis" - Good ep. A race of druggies was... new, and still
is. I was kind of pissed when Picard wouldn't intervene to help them
though. [A-]

22.) "Skin of Evil" - Probably the most memorable (I didn't say the
best) episode of Star Trek, period. Tasha died in this episode, which was a
TOTAL shock to me. The black alien looked like hell, but he was... neat,
I'll give him that. [A]

23.) "We'll Always Have Paris" - Fine episode, Picard was his own, cool
self. Data was Da Man, and the story was good. First time travel ep too,
IIRC. [B+]

24.) "Conspiracy" - I guess if I saw this episode BEFORE the later
seasons, I may have liked it. But I didn;t, and it blew chicken balls.
HOWEVER, me being the fair guy that I am, I'll give it a "C", because it
was original. [C]

25.) "The Neutral Zone" - After seeing this episode, I always wondered what
it would be like to get frozen half way through my life. It was goooood.
And the Romulans rocked! [A+]

<<<([Overall])>>>

The first season was definitely worse than all other seasons, but it had
it's moments.

While your disbelief is "suspended," I found on the Trekkies movie site a
factoid that Wes is the ideal who Roddenberry wanted to be when he was
young.

Episodes where Wesley saves the ship but only because he put it in danger in

Wesley was also Gene's middle name.

I just think something must have got lost in the translation then. I can't
bear Wesley. I have a friend who has avidly watched, rewatched and
collected every series of Trek *except* TNG, because in the few episodes he
did watch Wesley just gave him the screaming jeebies. Maybe it's just the
effete and wussy way the role was played.

Which reminds me; why have they never tried to bring him back for the
movies? Even a cameo? You can't tell me Wil Wheaton has better things to
do.

cheers

I thought the scene between Picard and Beverly in his ready room was
pretty hot. Definitely some sizzle.

I don't have any specific criticisms of this ep because it's been
awhile since I've seen it. I just remember not caring for it at all.

I liked this ep. Cool film noir look to the holodeck scenes. Plus,
there was some existential issues played with too. It's one of those
eps I don't mind watching again and again.

Well, *I* wouldn't mind Beverly unzipping her uniform for me ;-)

A theory - Wesley is unbearable because - no matter how hard they try
to explain his presence - he does not belong on a starship. The mere
sight of him to some of us precludes the suspension-of-disbelief which
is necessary to enjoy most SF. IOW, you have to buy into what is
happening, and with Wesley aboard, that's not possible.

The ol' crusty doctor in the second season. ;) Gosh, I hope she returns in

Shouldn't be too hard. In DS9 they got the Defiant out of mothballs in a few
days when the Wormhole went into an inversion. Am I babbling again?

Why is a female controlled planet implausible?
