He's a science fiction writer. He's well-known for having strong opinions and
expressing them in a less-than-diplomatic way. (pot, kettle, black... yeah,
yeah, I know)

What does this have to do with Space Cases? Harlan Band was named after him,
and he wrote and narrated the opening narration in the first season credits
("the Eye of the Future sees them...")

Oooh. Isn't one of his more-easily-pushed buttons calling him an SF writer?

Many, many moons ago, I had signed up for a science fiction class in college.
The usual teacher was an educated idiot who had no idea what he was talking
about. One day, however, we got a sub--a very attractive, witty woman who
asked us if anyone knew who Harlan Ellison was. Of course we all did...most of
us, anyway. At any rate, she mentioned that she was in the unique company of
having spoken to Harlan twice on the phone--the first call, he hung up on her,
the second time, she hung up on him.

Impressed the daylights out of me to no end. :)

I think I saw mentioned in an Ellison book where he calls his stories "Harlan
Ellison stories".

Yeah, I know it sounds vague... but once you begin reading his stories and
books, and begin to get a feel for his style of writing, you realize that he
was right. Because there really isn't any specific classification for his
stories.

Harlan Ellison Stories.. they're HES and HES alone.

Got a better one for you:

There is an old fan-created video called "Star Trek: The Pepsi Generation" One
of the scenes shows three writers in a room, and one of the writers is an
obnoxious little guy who is cursing about how much he hates the show. This
writer is wearing a t-shirt that says "H.E. Man"!

(the closing credits list "A.C.: A writer; D.C.: Another writer; H.E.: An
obnoxious writer)
