And as is the Dutch nature, we are anarchistic and except for the older
generations don't really care much for our anthem. We can hum along to the
tune and sing the first refrain (of 9 or something), well, that's about it.

Ofcourse, that's speaking for my friends all over the Netherlands.
Maybe this particular generation is just very anarchistical. :)

He has every right in the world not to pay respect to the anthem. HELLO,
WAKE UP, it's *only* a song! And, NOM, a stupid one often. I happen to
like the American one, since it can be sung quite nicely, but I've heard
some really awfull anthems and really pity those countries.

***** NOTES from MLP Frank Chang (FRANKC @ SUPERCOM) at 1/22/97 9:11 AM

I love Taiwan's anthem, but that could just be that I'm from there. It's a

hard thing to forget where you're from and all, but if you ask me now I

probably wouldn't be able to write down all the words to that anthem simply

because it's been so long, which puts me to shame because I don't know the

US anthem either. Talk about being stuck in between two boats and none of

your feet landing on either boat...

Yup. That's about all I'm good for as well. I just don't really worry about
whether or not I know all the verses to "advance australia fair"

The US nationasl anthem is ok except for those inhumanly (and unchigly)
high notes in the middle of it. My personal opinion is that
what-his-name who wrote it got a sudden snuggie at that point.

If memory serves me correctly, The Star Spangled Banner's music
comes from an old English drinking song. Don't forget that
Francis Scott Key was a lawyer being held as a prisoner on board
a British warship as the bombardment was taking place, but as a
gentleman, he was treated more like an honoured guest than a
prisoner. My understanding is that he was a bit drunk when he
wrote the words, which would explain the part about using the
music from a drinking song.
The biggest problem with singing The Star Spangled Banner is
that most people start singing too low and then realize it too
late when they screech out the high notes.
