"We all know Vito's not the first."

What did he mean by that? Do they really all know of other gay mafiosi?

There have been in the real mob. Since they've used plenty or references

this is what they were referring to.

In article <s7ednYiQ2f-2GN7Z...@adelphia.com>,

The actor Gannascoli (sp.?) had read the true story of Vito Arena, a
member of the real life DeMeo crime family on which the Sopranos is
largely based.

Arena was a 350 pound hitman who took a 120 pound guy as his boyfriend.
I think he continued to function for a while after being outed.

Anyway, the actor brought this story to the writers after he had been
cast to play a character named Vito in The Sopranos, and told them "If
you want to take my character in that direction, I'm game" (paraphrase).

A brilliant move in terms of career, as it made his character jump out
of the chorus for sure. When Gene died people were asking "Was that guy
in previous shows?" even though he'd been on the show for years.

Nobody's asking that about Vito now.

See what building a ramp up to Beansie's ass can accomplish?

I don't think they would have made any of the made guy characters go
that route, and there is evidence to suggest that the other actors,
namely Tony Sirico and Gandolfini would have stood up for anyone being
forced to. But Gannascoli went to them.
