Seriously, I want to know. Is it me? Why is this totally unfunny person having
his own special on HBO? I am trying to have an open mind, but I have not so much
as cracked a smile at his shtick. I would go so far as to say he sucks. Royally.
And what's with the hundred bottles of water that he keeps drinking. Doesn't he
have to pee? Why is he on HBO? Why is the audience laughing? Were they all paid
to??

He used to be funny, like when he would say "Nanu nanu", but now
people just cackle nervously out of respect. Just like with Bob Hope,

- No.
- I was wondering that, also.
- You would think so.
- They paid him?
- Pity?
- I'm guessing they weren't.

I think you're just jealous because HBO won't give YOU a special! What do you
think of that, Li'l Miss Criticism???

BTW... I sat through the whole damn show because I kept thinking that it HAD to
get better at some point.

Oh really? What were you watching? We would like to know, because we
were watching the painfully unfunny Robin Williams special, and we
could have really used a laugh.

You see my deer Shammie, Robin Williams began his career in the late
70's, a time when 9 out of 10 people were snorting cocaine like it was
free. Comedy club attendees were so wired to the gills on cocaine that
they thought not only Robin Williams was funny.....but that everything
was funny. Writers likened him to JOhnathan Winters (another unfunny
man) and words like genius were being thrown around all because they
confused the ramblings of a coked out man-ape with a stream of
consciousness genius.

Many people say "Oh, he's so quick and witty" Bullshit, I says.
Simpletons reflexively laugh because they don't know what he's
actually saying. I'd wager if you slowed down his live performance to
33 and a third, the audience would snap out of their comas and tear
him apart like a loaf of freshly baked bread.

I hope this has answered your question.

I wandered in and out of the TV room, then I caught his "grande finale," then I
watched in horror as he came back out and was shaking hands with the audience
and high-fiving them, and then in a final gesture of utter desperation, threw
his arms open wide and yelled "WE DID IT!!!" We did what?! Watched the Emperor

It did, thank you.
Especially the part about slowing it down. That's just the thing. It all felt so
ponderous and slow to me, like I was out of phase or something, like that time
that Romulan pretended to be in the slowed down time shift, but he was just
pretending so he could kill Geordi and Ro.

I can only think HBO has decided against showing the stuff
they show 4 times in one day , five times in one day and need
to fill some airtime.
Robin Williams, Billy Crystal, Dennis Leary, Ellen
Degenerous , _ _ _ _, _ _ _ _ , _ _ _ _ _,
(insert any other painfully ponderous pseudo intellectual funny
person) etc, etc....
As funny as a car wreck, almost as painful.
Who is more method......? The comedian with the tired, unfunny
material or the Pavlovian audience that responds to tired, unfunny
material ?

For all who did not enjoy Robin Williams, it would seem that
you have access only to one channel. I receive seven HBO
channels and hundreds of other channels--and I live in
Montana. Surely you could have found something else to watch.
If not, why not pop in a DVD or video...or go for a walk?
Seriously, who forced you watch a program that you did not
find entertaining? Must all one's TV viewing be laughter?
How about Discovery, TLC or PBS for a good documentary?

Not a need. A choice. However, I cannot for the life of me figure out
why someone would choose to invest an hour and a half in watching a
television program which they found to be "painful".

And you were replying to Starbuck's response to Shammie. Which is what
I was referring to.

Get it?

I think Loki is just peeved.

You are jealous of your own huge penis? I don't get it.

Oooohhhh!! Now I get it. When you bitch it's a choice. When Shammie merely
asks for opinions it's a "need" to bitch. Just for the record. Robin
Williams sux. I'd rather floss my teeth with a cheap neck tie than watch
that hairy, sweaty, ugly, nervous wreck mother fucker. Oh did I mention that
he's NOT funny?

Who gives a fuck that he got an HBO special. I call you r attention to
"Pimps up, Hoes down"

Case closed!

He was great in Momento but I couldn't sit through more than 5
minutes of his speical. His sort of manic stream of conscious rants
just aren't funny

That should be the title of Williams autobiography, "The Mediocre
Career of a Coked Up Man-Ape". How could the lovely Pam Dawber stand
it all those years?

I thought Dennis Leary's special was great. Nearly as funny as the
famous Chris Rock "Bring the Pain" where he brought tossing salads
into 90s lexicon. The other comedy special I liked but thought I would
hate was the one with British comic Eddie Izzard

I wouldn't be surprised if the laughter was edited in after the
performance
