At the end of episode 24 (House Arrest) when that guy Carmine gets
into the accident outside Satriales, Agent Harris stops by with his
new partner to introduce to Tony.

The 3 of them are just shooting the breeze about basketball, etc.

I just couldn't imagine an FBI Agent stopping by to shoot the breeze
with someone he's trying put in jail. And if he did, I can't imagine
Tony being too friendly towards him. They seemed real "buddy-buddy".

After that episode, I was left with the impression that Harris is in
Tony's pocket. Nothing else really made too much sense to me.

That is, until Sunday's episode where Harris appears to be working his
ass off to get Tony's house bugged & to ultimately nail him.

Anyone have any thoughts on this ? ? I'm wondering, if Harris is on
Tony's payroll, then he should definately be tipping Tony off to the
bug.

Actually, I think that there is an actual familiarity and professional
cat and mouse relationship between feds and some OC. Remember the
police guy in Boston or Providence that was accused of getting too
familiar with OC people he was investigating?

That happens in every single Mob movie in the universe. They're
required by law to have a scene where the two adversaries have an
outwardly cordial conversation.

From what I've read, mob guys and fbi agents bullshit with each other all
the time. It's a win/win situation.
However, the job at hand is still the job at hand.
When Agent Harris shoots the breeze with Tony Soprano, he's hoping that one
day Tony is going to rat. And being that Agent Harris is showing he's a decent
guy, it just may be one more thing that would lean to Tony, or any similar mob
guy, to join the ranks of the "FBI Informer".
On Tony's end of the deal, by him being a decent guy and not being hostile
when agent Harris shows up at the social club at Satriale's, It makes Tony a
sure candidate if Agent Harris ever did decides to go "on the take".
That's my guess.

I think part of it is the game involved. It is fun to flaunt it in the feds
face, knowing they want to get Tony but can't build a case.

Remember when Tony would send deli trays to the feds office? Then when he
was arrested at the end of season 2, he told them not to be expecting any
more deli trays.

I think there's also an element of respect for each other as
professionals, but on opposite sides of the track.

The most important point of this scene was to show how comfortable Tony
was there and how happy he was to be back in his familiar haunt, where
he was the Don.
