My vote goes to Darrel Hammond. He does so many characters and so well.
But then, my SNL watching period is just about 3 years.

Yeah, you really can't judge by that. I'd say Dan Aykroyd or Phil Hartman.
Their impressions seemed more authentic, whereas Hammond is a bit more
mechanical; he's like a robot that's been programmed to do impressions. Of
course, that's a very unique style, and it works for a lot of his
characters.-Shawn

My top 5 SNL impersonator/impressionists:

1) Phil Hartman (Sinatra, Heston & Clinton ruled)
2) Dana Carvey (Woody Allen, Bush Sr., Perot, and his awesome Dennis Miller)
3) Darrell Hammond (My favorite of his is Clinton, though Gore is his most
accurate)
4) Dan Aykroyd
5) Will Ferrell

My three favorites would have to be:
1. Dana Carvey (for his George Bush, George Michael, Robin Leach, Regis Philbin
and John McLaughlin impersonations)

2. Phil Hartman (Barbara Bush, Frankenstein, Bill Clinton, Frank Sinatra,
Ronald Reagan) He could play any part from a drill sergeant to a gay dance
instructor.

3. Jan Hooks (Tammy Faye Baker, Nancy Reagan, whoever the slut was on "Wayne's
World")

With honorable mentions going to:
Norm MacDonald (Bob Dole)
Nora Dunn (Leona Helmsley)
Eddie Murphy (Stevie Wonder)
Gilda Radner (Barbara Walters/Baba Wawa)
John Belushi (Marlon Brando)
Kevin Nealon (Brett Musburger "onnn CBSsss")

Ferrell? Yeah, the guy is hilarious, but I wouldn't say he is known for his
impressions other than GWB.

Yeah Hartman rocks! He can sound so much like Clinton speaking. But he didnt
look much like him when he played Clinton. His voice was dead on though.

What I think he means is that people don't know Will Ferrell as 'the guy that
played Neil Diamond' on SNL. He's been known for playing Bush this past year.

The most recent impressions on SNL that I've enjoyed would have to be...

Ana's Katherine Harris, Darrell's exaggerated impression of Chris Matthews,
Will's Goulet, Maya as Macy Gray was hilarious, Chris Parnell as Eminem, and
Darrell as Dick Cheney.

I thought Jimmy Fallon's impression of Robin Williams on the Lucy Liu episode
(celeb. Jeopardy sketch) was just brilliant! And his Chris Rock is excellent
as well.

Come on folks. All of Jimmy Fallon's impressions are first rate -
Robin Williams, Jerry Sienfeld, etc. Also, his musical
impersinations are perfect as well - Creed, Bono, etc.

Imitating Creed is a bit second hand isn't it? You might as well go back to the
source: Pearl Jam.

>Bono, etc.

The trouble with Fallon's impressions (and I don't want to just single him out,
others do it too) is that they are just impressions for impressions sake. If I
wanted to see that, I'd go see Rich Little in Vegas. To me, in a sketch comedy
show, technical accuracy takes a back seat to having a well-crafted sketch and
a convincing performance. (For example, I think Hammond's Clinton was better
than Hartman's, but I'd take Hartman's superior acting ability any day of the
week.)

What are you talking about? Not only are Jimmy's impressions examples of a
convincing performance, they're much more well-crafted than a lot of what's out
there. Are you telling me that the Seinfeld/Seinfeld bit or the Dennis Miller
impressions aren't convincing and well-crafted? That's ridiculous.

> (For example, I think Hammond's Clinton was better

You know what? EVERYONE says that. Because everyone likes Phil Hartman more
than Darrell Hammond. I like him more than Hammond too, but let me just say
what everyone else seems to be scared of saying- Darrell's Clinton is just
BETTER. Saying that Hartman's wasn't as accurate but it was funnier because of
his acting or whatever lame excuse you use is bullshit. "Darrell does a good
impression, but he could've never pulled off the McDonald's bit like Phil
Hartman did." BULLSHIT. Darrell's done all kinds of hilarious things with his
Clinton impression. He could've done the McDonald's bit just as well, if not
better. Hartman's Clinton just seems lame in comparison. I think Darrell
deserves a LOT more credit than you people give him.

The funny thing about Jimmy, he actually does great song parodies. It's like
he's Weird Al or Sandler but Jimmy actually has a good voice. He's releasing
an album of funny songs, I hope he pulls it off. I got a feeling he will.
Now, we know that Eddie Murphy's singing career sucked like Don Johnson's, but
Jimmy is going for the comedy angle. I bet it will work.

I think Hartman did a much better voice impression of Clinton (Looking away from
the TV, I couldn't tell that it was not the real Slick Willie) while Hammond can
look like and behave like Clinton in a more convincing way.

Actually, Lithgow said that last night on...Conan..I think. He said they had
been doing the audio for the past 3 years or so, and that they had videotaped
them doing the audio and the animators actually used their features and
mannerisms in doing the animation. He then taught Conan how to do the "evil

Interesting fact... Lithgow was the original coice to play Dr Frasier Crane in

He hosted 10.03.98, and hosted another time a long time ago.

Kelsey was the last of the Cheers cast to host. Remember once when Kirstie
hosted and the whole cast came on during the monologue talking about how they
had all hosted and he kept saying "uh...I've never hosted..." and he wrapped
the monologue up. He hosted sometime after that.
