Also, I have a list of Deep Thoughts, most of them I think, I got off our
network here, not sure where it originated, would anyone like me to post it?

I actuallty thought that sketch last night was pretty good, because of seinfeld
though, not Molly Shannon

The "Backstage History of Saturday Night Live" book goes into detail. Here's
what Bill Murray said to one of the writers at the time: "Do you know what it's
like, to go out there and play something that's going to make people hate you?"
He and Gilda Radner were the couple, Bea Arthur the doctor. I've never seen the
Bea Arthur show, even in syndication, maybe "First, He Cries" is the reason
why.
Franken & Davis wrote it. The censors approved it, but SNL receieved a great
deal of angry phone calls and letters because of it. Bea Arthur (the host, and
she was the doctor in the sketch) even got an angry phone call late that night
from a viewer who'd tracked down her hotel room number.
Betty Rollins herself wrote SNL a letter saying the parody didn't bother her,
and Al Franken got her permission to read excerpts of the letter on Weekend
Update.

Whoa... I definitely remember seeing this sketch, and it MUST have been in
syndication, because I'm not old enough to have seen it when it first aired. I
remember Gilda was supposed to have a mastectomy, and Bea as the doctor was
scolding Gilda for being so insensitive to Bill's needs ("It's my breast..."
"Oh, get off your high horse!") I remember it vaguely, but I remember seeing
it... weird.

"I don't know, but to me he seems gay. He claims he's not, but I've never
seen, like, a guy who's not gay seem so gay. I don't find him funny. What can I
say? Never made me laugh." -- Norm Macdonald on SNL cast member Chris Kattan
I too have seen this, and it was on before I was born. I remember
distinctly seeing the Bea Arthur show on either Nick at Night or one
of the other channels that showed the 30 minute "Best Of"s a few years
ago. They also used to show the Louise Lasser episode, cause I've seen
it at least twice. I think the only part with her in it that they show
is the monologue where she has to be lured out of her dressing room by
the "land shark".
So if the Bea Arthur and Lasser eps have been made into 30 minute
versions, which ones (from 75-80) haven't? I seem to remember hearing
about Dyan Cannon and Kris Kristopherson being pretty bad and not
being edited down. Is there a 30 minute Milton Berle?
