Can anyone here supply me with the exact text/teleplay of this notorious
skit? I realize that it's largely visual, but....

I never did see it, but I read it in an SNL book that came out after the
first few seasons... probably now out of print, but perhaps someone here has
it. The book is done as a scrapbook, with direct photos/copies of some of
the early sketches... there were notes in the margins of that sketch (I'm
working from memory here) - "I wonder if Claudine will be on the Paul
Williams Christmas Special this year?" and "Look out! Santa's got a gun!"

There actually is a Claudine Longet WWW page ... they don't seem to have much to
say about the SNL news item.

I think that is the same book that they're selling with copies of the
"Best of 96-97" tape.

This is the only skit of which I'm aware of an on air apology (read by Don
Pardo) the next week. Chevy and Jane are the commentators, narrating over
footage of skiers wiping out. As every skier fell, Chevy and Jane would say,
"Oh no - he's been accidently shot by Claudine Longet!" Classic. And look for
the Rolling Stones bootleg song, "Claudine's Back in Jail Again.".

The skiing footage was slow-motion downhill slalom, with gunshots
added; the third one almost fell down after the shot ("Oh no, he's
been shot! No, he's just been winged...") stayed up a few more feet,
THEN fell down after a second shot.

It aired around or during the trial of Claudine Longet for "accidentally" shooting and killing her boyfriend ski champion Spider Sabich. It consists of a series of stock films of skiers falling during competitions. There's a voice over that sounds like a sports announcer at the beginning of the race. Then you hear a gunshot and the skier falls. Then the announcer says "Oh no, it looks like he was just accidentally shot by Claudine Longet". This continues until all the contestants have been accidentally shot by Claudine Longet.

After it was first aired, Claudine Longet sued and SNL was forced to make a public appollogy and promise to never air it again.
