We can't tell if this is really deadpan humor or a sad commentary on
something--maybe both--but here's an excerpt from a statement the Czech
Republic's Embassy in Washington issued Friday:

As more information on the origin of the alleged perpetrators
is coming to light, I am concerned to note in the social media
a most unfortunate misunderstanding in this respect. The Czech
Republic and Chechnya are two very different entities - the Czech
Republic is a Central European country; Chechnya is a part of
the Russian Federation.

As the President of the Czech Republic Milo Zeman noted in his
message to President Obama, the Czech Republic is an active and
reliable partner of the United States in the fight against
terrorism. We are determined to stand side by side with our
allies in this respect, there is no doubt about that.

Petr Gandalovic
Ambassador of the Czech Republic

That's certainly a relief. Still, we seem to remember a couple of Czech
brothers who were, by any measure, wild--and quite possibly crazy. We'd
like some reassurance that they aren't involved. Has anyone heard from
Steve Martin and Dan Aykroyd?

"The trend is undeniable, the far left intruding on the national
discourse, perverting the educational system, and generally behaving as
badly as any movement has since the late 1960s. Fair-minded Americans
will eventually reject this explosion of zealotry as they always have."

I seem to recall them reprising the act recently. I think it was on an
SNL episode where a bunch of 5-time hosts were greeting a new inductee
into the club.

Yes. Alongside Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg doing their update on the
bit. Pretty funny too.

Yes, it's a sad commentary on America's school system. Students
get huge doses of internationalism, but don't learn world geography.

The 'Brightness' control still doesn't help

It all goes back to Nixon and his Czechers speech.

But I do want to thank the good folks of Istanbul for the wonderful
Thanksgiving dinner last year!
