In May of 2000 on a Britney Spears episode of SNL, Horatio Sanz and a
troupe of SNL dancers did a Gap Fat ad parody. At that time, both
NAALA (National Association for the Advancement of Lard Asses) and
PETOF (People for the Ethical Treatment of Fatties) demanded that
Horatio Sanz be fired for his insensitive portrayal of XXXXXL wearing
people. Fatties everywhere demanded NBC fire Sanz and apologize to
the 65% of Americans who are morbidly obese. "The Gap Fat Parody is
indicative of greater ills in our culture," said uber-fat comedian
John Goodman. "It is not just Mr. Sanz, and we hope that this will
serve as a catalyst for change. Let us continue to work hard together
to make this world a more tolerant place for fat asses." At the time,
fat advertisers pulled their sponsorships from the show, and SNL lost
sponsors Taco Bell, KFC, and Hot Pockets. However, Sanz never
apologized, and he was never disciplined or fired from the show.
