Hey thanks for the personalized wish -- I guess that's for the same
"everyone" that I was picking on.

I shan't need the wish though since I'm really back here in 1954 loosening
the training wheel on your little Schwinn. You may wake up with a limp in
the morning.

Things are much more peaceful here -- egg creams are delicious -- the hot
dogs seem to have a richer, fresher taste and last week, the Gimbel's
windows were wonderful. George Reeves gave me his autograph, seems he was
doing some Christmas promo work at NBC where I looked in the window to see
Dave Garroway and Jack Leschoulie doing the news. I held a card that read:
"Beware the computer". No one cared though -- seems there were 4-5 other
time travelers there with the same sign.

I stopped in to visit with Irving Penn. He had a really small studio and
was using too short of a lens to shoot the people so I told him he could
gain some more distance if he stuck his subjects back into the corner --
just wedge them in. Guess that worked.

The girls here are nice too -- they embrace something called "femininity" --
wonder what that is? Well anyway they aren't men with tits and I haven't
heard one of them cursing, spitting, or seen and ass tattoo, a nipple ring
or one scratching their privates either.

I wish everyone well there in the future even though you will never know
what I've changed or done unless of course you have the omniscient vision of
a Smallville writer.

Traveling through time has revealed that good wishes really haven't done
much for the future -- it seems that good actions have more impact but are
as rare as hen's teeth. Then again, who judges anyone on what they've done
when blather gets better ratings?

Arkham is a swell place in 1954. I got in here because I was loosening the
training wheel on a bike that was in layaway at Macy's and it wouldn't be
paid in full for two years. I explained that I was a time traveler but time
travel doesn't have a very wide acceptance and understanding in 1954 -- not
like it does in 2009 as described by the masters of logic found on the
Smallville group. There are other time travelers here -- some have been
here forever -- stuck in one of those "causality loops" it seems.

Millar & Gough are here if you were wondering where they went. Seems they
got stuck in a "causality loop" too, being forced to write the Clark and
Lana romance over and over and over but were suddenly cut off and imprisoned
here. They were thankful though to be released from the loop, however I had
to explain to them that in the future, the show they started had become very
lame and only fit for the simple-minded caped groupies. They asked why, and
I told them that oddly, Kristen Kruek was the key to the show and not Tom
Welling. It didn't really matter what KK did -- as long as she was on the
show the ratings were up. M&G were surprised to find out that KK with her
diminutive frame had become a Kung Fu Master. They didn't know there was a
dojo in the back of the Starbucks. I promised M&G that if I got Back To The
Future (borrowed that from Doc) that I would stop at season 5 and deliver a
message to them from them in the past -- and that is to not quit the show
and to not introduce characters from the comics. Seems that was the
downfall of Smallville and when I went to 2011 -- the show had been
cancelled. Tom Welling moved over to 90210 along with the Smallville
writing team. The writers fit better there because magic story lines and
devices play well with that demographic.

Maybe if I use the spring wire in the cot to make a powerful Tesla coil
winding, attach it to the light socket and jump from a window -- I could hit
88 mph and 1.21 GW before the ground comes up. Doulas Adams is in the next
cell and he says to jump at the ground and at the last minute manage to miss
it. I think he's nuts and he swears there is a whole floor dedicated to
tanks full of dolphins transported there from the future.

All the men wear suits, white shirts, ties and big hats back here in 1954.
I guess JFK lifted our chapeaus forever. Doc says "hi". He's trying to get
1.21 Gigawatts by rubbing his socked feet across the carpet. Sure glad I
brought this Stargate Universe communication stone. Wishing you all a
Magical New Year that makes no sense at all.

Do you like apples?

When I get out of 1954 Arkham, I'm taking the time machine to the 80's and
I'm giving condoms to the Smallville writers' parents.

How do you like them apples?

BC,
Arkham -- 94th Floor, cellblock 6, padded room 9 -- 1954-55

Actually you both are right and wrong. A decade is any grouping of ten
years. So we can start a new decade this year or next year depending on how
you count ten years.

and while he is technically correct- when we look back at 2010 or 2020,
2030 etc. we consider that year to be part of the new decade. For
example most people would consider 1920 to be part of the "'20's" as in
the roaring 20's (even though it is technically incorrect).

The year 2000 (while technically part of the 20th century) is considered
by most of us to be part of the the "00" decade. I am certain that I
will consider 2010 to be part of the "10's" - assuming of course that I
am around in the 20's to reflect on it. (I'm gonna have to check the
Vegas betting line on that one).

When you speak of the third decade for instance, you speak of the period
1921-1930.
But when you speak of the 'twenties', you indeed mean every year of that
decade that starts with a '2'. In this case: 1920-1929.
Not exactly the same as the third decade, but there's an overlap.

now thats ridiculous (and I suspected that you were going to say that)-

True in the 1970's - NOT today

for populations over 500,000, NYC has (for the last 15 years) ranked in
the top 10 cities over 500,000 people, for safety. (but I agree the
cabbies smell like curry)

Heres one link - I can cite dozens:

http://www.morganquitno.com/cit07pop.htm

scroll to the correct population-

Now- can you get mugged? - sure - but I was mugged in Coral Springs FL-

nothing to do with the city -

as for your husband - just cause he hates the yankees...

I don't hate the Yankees, but I have to stand by my man in his disdain
for NY. :-D

Seriously, though - I told you I want to go there, despite hubby's
vehement objections. I will, but I'm still not going alone. Probably
could talk my son into it. He loves big cities.

That's true. The island of Manhattan today is virtually one big business
district. And Brooklyn is even becoming a tourist destination. Hoboken
across the river is nice.
A lot of brownstone buildings.

Well, certain parts, but it's mostly the Bronx that's bad.

I can speak:
- Dutch (obviously).
- English (as I demonstrate at this moment).
- German (although it is rather rusty mind you!)

And of course next to that a know a dozen words in several
other languages. . For instance some French, which I also need to read
sometimes, a few words of Latin.
Thanks to guys like Gorbachev we /all/ know a few more Russian words I
think.

And of course we're not actually speaking now, but writing, with me loving
my trusty spell checker. I don't often get the change to move my tongue in
foreign .... tongues, but I have done so in the past. I met people from the
UK and Canada and I managed to convey what I wanted to say. Plus, like most
people, I sing a long with the radio sometimes.

'Netherlandic' or 'Dutch'.
:-)
I often hear it's a difficult language. But it is closely related to
English:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Germanic_languages

Others come up with a different family tree:
http://softrat.home.mindspring.com/germanic.html#treeofge

It seems to be a source of debate.

Perhaps we'd better spell that phonetically, so all can understand...

saying things like, "I don't got" and "irregardless" I just wanna hork.

Quick history lesson: Shemp was one of the original 3 stooges. He left
the act and was replaced by Curly. The stooges became famous with Curly.
Curly played "Curly" for many years until Curly had a stroke. Desperate
to keep the act going, Moe convinced Shemp to come back and replace
Curly. Years later Shemp had a heart attack and died. After that they
replaced Shemp with Curly and/or Shemp types, but most were terrible.

Again - to me- Shemp, who was naturally goofy looking, was by far the
funniest of the stooges, because he would make fun of his own looks.
