The Truckosaurus motocross commercial spoof never fails to make me laugh...
"BE THERE...be there...be there... be there..."
Anyways: A question. The background music. During the scene when Bart sneaks
out of the house after promising his dad, and when his dad barges in his
room with a ball and glove, thinking he's still there...is that original
music or a reference to something? that string section line sounds
familliar...
"This is SO cool."

The weekend after this episode first aired, two friends of mine were
married in a nearby Friends meeting. We all settled into silence to
be able to hear any words the spirit might choose to give us to share
with the people present. I was very happy for both my friends, and
*my* whole spirit was filled with: "This is SO cool." People probably
thought my testimony was pretty weird, but I'm sure they could tell it
was heartfelt.
Thank you for not disclaiming the outside world...

The commercial then says "Celebrity voice impersonated."
I initially thought that this was in Bart the Daredevil so I kept waiting
to see that part but obviously it didn't happen....
Which episode is that from? or did they cut this episode in rerun? or am
I just falling into Simpsons delirium?

I don't remember which episode that commercial is from, but it is in a
different one than Bart the Daredevil. The thing I really wanted to
comment on was the huge edit at the end. I unfortunately didn't have
this episode on tape, as well as most first and second season episodes,
so I was taping it, and I am sure they cut out about 2 minutes from the
end, and It seemed very obvious (to me). I guess I'll have to wait for
syndication (forever?) to get the whole episode. So, did anyone else
notice this?

It would help if you describe the missing footage. As for syndication,
keep in mind that episodes are routinely chopped by local stations
when they go into syndication.

I think this is from 'Marge Vs The Monorail'. At the end of the Truckosaurus
clip there is a hasty voiceover saying 'Celebrity voice impersonated'.

That was from Marge vs. the Monorail [9f10]. The episode capsule sez...
% Homer watches a television advert for ``Truckasaurus: The Movie'',
% starring Marlon Brando as John Truckasaurus (celebrity voice impersonated).
Of course, that doesn't mean you're NOT falling into Simpsons delirium.

Well, I can't describe the missing footage because I didn't see it, it was
missing! However, I believe everyone in the US more or less should have seen
it (or I guess not seen it :^> ) since I was watching a Fox station and
apparently it was chopped because of the Super (Stupid?) Dave hosting of the
evening programs, and they needed time for his stuff. After Homer's second
fall, they cut to the hospital and there was one line spoken and credits rolled. My timer on my VCR said about 20 min (without commercials) and it's usually
around 23 min. very consistently.
So, was there missing footage, or was it just a very short, incoherent ending
to an unusually short episode?

I taped this episode on its original airing. I don't remember the length (I
can check, if you like), but I do remember it ending with the one line you
mention. Homer is in a hospital bed next to daredevil Capt. Lance Murdock
and says to him, "You think you're tough, try raising my kids."

Well here in Canada (or at least in the Montreal area) over the credits to the
show you heard Bart say something to the effect of "Stay tuned, cause my
"Do the Bartman" video is coming up next!" and after a few commercials they
showed the "Bartman" video. Since the episode is from 1990 (which I believe
is when "The Simpsons Sing the Blues" album came out) I would make the
conjecture that they intentionally made this episode shorter than usual in
order to provide time to show the video.
OK, I figured out what is going on. Looking at the episode guide that was
just posted recently, we see that on Dec 9, 1990 this episode originally
aired, followed by "Do the Bart Man". The time of the show was therefore
shorter than a normal episode to accomidate the video. Well, because the
ending seemed choppy and abrupt, now I wonder if there was originally some
extra footage that got cut (by The Simpsons Editors) to accomidate the video,
like how sometimes there is footage in commercials that is not used in the
show when it airs after final editing. Oh Well, I guess it's not big deal.
I was originally just concerned that I had not gotten the whole show as
previously aired, as I am trying to get all the older episodes that I didn't
tape originally.
Chris
The original "Bart The Daredevil" episode had the "Do The Bartman" music
video shown afterward, which was the reason why the episode was shorter than
usual. The entire video lasted about 6 minutes, including intro and credits.

The original "Bart The Daredevil" episode had the "Do The Bartman" music
I believe the cause for the shorter episode was that the "world premiere" of
the first Simpsons music video, Do the Bart man, was aired right after this
particular episode. At least, up here in Canada that's what they did on the
replay...

Richard.

Yeah, but the missing footage is that of Homer's second plunge down the
gorge. Instead of showing his fall, they cut to a freeze-frame of the kids
looking down the gorge.

A-HA!! They never showed that footage in Bart the Daredevil!!
"But I know they did... I clearly remember seeing Homeboy go over
that cliff a second time..." you say!
Well, NOW you've fallen right into my little TRAP! Perhaps you *did* see
Homer's second plunge... BUT it was only revealed in So It's Come To This:
A Simpson's Clip Show!!!!!
Mystery Solved. I will expect my usual fee of $50 dollars a day plus expenses.

Wrong! I've seen the second plunge, but I only saw the first 5 minutes
of the clip show (before they got to the clips!) The ambulance drives
forward about 5 metres then hits a tree and Homer plummets again.
