They cut Homer's trip to the pet store, didn't they? Do they always cut
that scene in syndication?
That is truly a brilliant episode. They were really in their prime back
then. It makes thinking of season 9 painful.

Sometimes the out-of-character lines are the best. Homer's "You can't
sell that - Karma can only be apportioned out by the cosmos" was one.
Also when Bart sold his soul, Lisa said "The poet Pablo Naruda said
that laughter is the language of the soul." Bart, in a
don't-partonize-me tone, said "I am aware of the works of Pablo
Naruda."

I noticed that. I think that the reason is because the same person who
does Ralph's voice also does Nelson's voice. This was Ralph's first
speaking part and Nancy Cartwright (the voice for Ralph and Nelson) was
just testing with different voices and finally messed up and did the voice
of Nelson.

It wasn't the first time Ralph spoke. He spoke as early as the second
season's "Lisa's Substitute" (7F19), which was produced well before "Lisa's
Pony" (A third season episode; 8F06). He may have spoken on an earlier
occasion or occasions that I don't recall at the moment.
