I was watching Sunday's episode and kept thinking how awful it was when Suffolk
County, Long Island was divided between the "516" and "631" people.. how many
of you guys live in a similar area code situation?

Cook County, Illinois has at least 6 area codes. I've lived under 4 of them
so far.

We got split once about 10 years ago, 215 area code to 215 and 610. If you
wanted to call someone in 215 area code then (and lived in 610, like I do),
you dialed 1-215-555-5555... And for someone in your own area code it was
still just 555-5555. They changed it again two years ago I think. 215 and
610 were both split, so now there are 4 area codes. 610, 215, and two
others, I've never actually called them. But NOW, we HAVE to dial 10
digits. So, to call the next-door neighbor it would be 610-265-8572, or
whatever their number is, same goes with any people in the 3 surrounding
area codes. Finally used to the 10 digit dialing.

Heck, Nevada had only one area code for the entire state until last year.
Then those bastiches in Las Vegas got to keep the old one, and we got stuck
with a new, lamer, area code.

Me. I live in San Diego, which is divided into the 619 and 858 area
codes, pretty much right through the major metropolitan area. I live
in mid-town, in the 619 area, and drive 6 minutes to work, less than 5
miles away, in the 858 area. Yes, it's as annoying as it sounds.

When Alabama got a second area code, I was sorta proud "whoa we're growing
up and becoming more normal!" But that was right before I moved to New
York, which had different area codes (and annoying rate systems for
adjoining areas, a total dipshit anti-consumer system).

Now Houston has 3 with 10-digit dialing. Face it people, it's going to
keep happening, I like the whole thing about "if you dial 1, it's long
distance, otherwise, its local and free"

Phoenix metro area was divided from 602 into 602, 480, and 623. I'm 480 now.
I made 1000 business cards that said (602) about a month before I found out
about this.

I know how Homer felt.

I live in Minneapolis
3 years ago, it was all 612...
Then St. Paul & eastern suburbs split off into 651...
Then Northern MPLS suburbs split off into 763...
Then Southern MPLS suburbs split off into 972...
Now they are talking about spliting the 651 area into three codes!
