This is my first post here so I'll say 'Hi' to begin.

Does anyone else think it's absolutely hilarious when Homer wears his
glasses and tries to be intellectual? My favorite is when they're looking
for a nanny. Gimme some feedback. Thanks.

I think it's cool. No characters on the show wear glasses besides the nerdy
people (Grampa, Database, Ned Flanders, Hans Moleman, Smithers, Milhouse and
Kirk, Professor Frink, Marvin Monroe- need the list go on? (I think I just
opened a can of worms..)). Having Homer wear the glasses strikes a blow for us
with bad vision. Anyone know whic episode Homer first wore the glasses in?

Here is my favourite 'Homer in glasses having a stab at being intellectual
' moment.

From the Casino episode - $pringfield (Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying
and Love Legalised Gambling)

(Homer finds black horn-rimmed glasses in the toilet and puts them on)

Homer: The sum of the square roots of any two sides of an isosceles
triangle is equal to the square root of the remaining side.
Man in stall: That's a right triangle, you idiot!
Homer: Doh!

BTW, sorry if the above quote had already been posted, once again I've

And, for those of you who like the Movie References, this is a reference to The
Wizard Of Oz. That is the line the scarecrow used in the movie when he got his
diploma. It is of course, incorrect, as the man in the stall pointed out to
Our Hero Homer.

This was hilarious. It really requires description for those who don't
know....

Homer gets accepted into college... to celebrate he sets fire to his
high school diploma (which is hanging on the lounge wall, and how many
people can claim that of there homes?)

He then precedes to sing

I am so smart!
I am so smart!
S - M - R - T!

I mean, S - M - A - R - T!

While his house begins to burn around his ears.

Another brilliant scene from the same episode...

Homer causes a meltdown in a simulator of his control panel at the
nuclear plant (the simulator doesn't even contain any nuclear fuel)

The vehicle the simulator is in begins sinking into the ground a la
China Syndrome and Homer emerges from the pit glowing green and saying
"Must ... kill .... mankind ...." His watch beeps and he shakes of the
gree glow and says "Oooo, lunch time!."

Those two aren't nerdy. Miss Hoover is as sarcastic as CBG (she's one of my
favorite characters, but that has nothing to do with it) and LuAnn isn't a nerd
(I think Pyro would have better taste than that).

Wasn't Ham a one-time character?

He's not a nerd, he's just pathetic. And besides, he's a jock (captain of the
football team) and therefore not a nerd, according to Homer..

Not exactly. He had a line in "Lisa the Vegetarian," and showed up in a
few other episodes (at the Knowledgeum in "This Little Wiggy," for
instance).

Another great scene in that episode (I think) is when Homer causes
another meltdown (at the college, I believe), and the nuclear emergency crew
greats Homer by name when they come in.

"In there, guys." "Thanks Homer!"

I find the joke funny every time I see "Homer Goes To College" (which I haven't
seen in at least a year BTW), but whenever I think about it I come up with the
same conclusion- the nuclear technicians SHOULD know Homer, as he's such a
prominent figure at the SNPP (and I doubt that there are two power plants in
the vicinity of Springfield University). Anyone agree?

Um.....he wasn't. The Captain of the Basketball (not football) team was only
seen in "Attack Of The 50 Foot Eyesores" in one of the THOH episodes:

*Wiggum turns around and shoots Captain of the basketball team*

Wiggum: Ah, these monsters aren't so tough.
Lou: But Chief, that wasn't a monster. That was the Captain of the Basketball
team.
Wiggum: Well....He was turning into a monster.

This THOH episode was produced prior to The Very Tall Guy's first appearance in
"22 Short Films About Springfield". Therefore, they are not the same person.

I took it to mean that the clean-up crew knows Homer so well because he
has caused so many problems for the SNPP over the years.

Either that or he just "happens" to be around when something goes wrong.
