In "Viva Ned Flanders" we are told that he is a young-looking 60; but in
"Hurricane Neddy" we learn of his disfunctional adolescence, and flashback
to the sixties with his hippy parents...

I'm confused now.

We recently discussed this not to long ago. Just mark it up as another
continuity error, like:

1. Burns' exact age (81 or 104)
2. Krusty's illiteracy
3. How Homer lost his hair
4. Marge's allergic to seafood
5. How come we saw SLH in the BSHARPS flashback?
6. What happen to Marge's fear of flying when the family flew to
Washington DC?
7. How come Barney had a great singing voice in the BSHARPS episode,
yet "stank" in the Mr. Plow episode?
8. Ruth Powers appearing at Maggie's baby shower.
9. In "Homer the Smithers" Burns tells Homer he doesn't know how to
drive, yet in earlier episodes he does know.
10. Snowball is sometimes depicted as either a white or black cat.
11. In earlier episodes we see Krusty putting on make-up yet he says
to Homer, "This aint makeup!"

..Etc. You get the point? :-) BTW the episode capsules (housed @
www.snpp.com) lists goofs such as the ones above for every episode.

That's not en error. The white cat is Snowball I, who died before the show
started, but is seen in flashbacks. Snowball II is the black cat, which is seen
in present day Simpson eps.

> 1. Burns' exact age (81 or 104)
The only evidence for 81 (besides the fact that it's more "realistic," if that
word has any meaning in the Simpsons universe) is in "Simpson & Delilah," and
given the context I think Burns was fibbing.
> 2. Krusty's illiteracy
Krusty only knew how to read Yiddish, which is written in a different alphabet
than English, and so his aides had the Communist boycott and Falkland Islands
announcements printed up in the one language he could read. Since "Krusty Gets
Busted" he's learned how to read English.

> 3. How Homer lost his hair
Do we know for sure that it was the experimental serum that caused Homer to go
bald? No, they just said it *may* cause baldness. He definitely became bald
by tearing out his hair.

> 4. Marge's allergic to seafood
Hmm, I don't remember when she ate seafood... which episodes? Maybe her
allergy is only to certain kinds of fish? Saltwater as opposed to freshwater,
if that's credible?

> 5. How come we saw SLH in the >BSHARPS flashback?
That was not SLH, it was another greyhound owned by the Simpsons' neighbours.

> 6. What happen to Marge's fear of flying >when the family flew to Washington
DC?
Her phobia was probably latent until something (stress, perhaps) made it spring
to the surface in "Fear of Flying." This can happen sometimes.

> 7. How come Barney had a great >singing voice in the BSHARPS episode,
> yet "stank" in the Mr. Plow episode?
Many things could have happened between 1986 and 1992. Who knows what Barney
could have swallowed in that time that damaged his voice? Soap? Lye?

> 8. Ruth Powers appearing at Maggie's >baby shower.
Issues of chronology are very fuzzy since the Simpsons never age. After all,
in "real time," Ruth moved to Evergreen Terrace in 1992, and the story of "And
Maggie Makes Three" most likely takes place in 1993/94.
> 9. In "Homer the Smithers" Burns tells >Homer he doesn't know how to drive,
yet >in earlier episodes he does know.
Burns lies all the time. He just doesn't like doing work, being used to having
Smithers wait on him hand and foot.

> 11. In earlier episodes we see Krusty >putting on make-up yet he says
> to Homer, "This aint makeup!"
Maybe Krusty was wearing flesh-colored foundation over his normal, pale skin in
the scenes where we saw him putting on clown makeup.

Just like in real life.

No, Snowball I was a white cat, hence the name Snowball.  She only appeared in the episode when Lisa was 3 3/8 years old, called "Lisa's Sax".  Snowball was hit by a Chrystler and died, as stated in one of Lisa's poems.  So, after that, the Simpsons went to the animal shelter and got a new cat, and named it Snowball II, after the first one.  (We know that Snowball II was from an animal shelter because Homer said, "Well, let's just go to the animal shelter and get a new jazz man.")
However, we don't know when Snowball I died.

I said it once and I'll say it again.

When someone tells a story (example a flashback) they are telling it as
they remember it NOT as it actually happened. The two are rarely
synonymous.

According to THOH III, Snowball I died in 1990--but in "Simpsons Roasting on An Open Fire" Snowball I had recently died, which put the death date at late 1989.

Is there any proof for him being 104 other than Principal Skinner describing
him as such?

When Homer and Marge were at the all you can eat night at the "Frying
Dutchman", she couldn't eat anything, because all they had was seafood on
the menu.

In 4F05, which took place in 1996, he graduated in 1914; were he 22 when he
graduated, that would make his age 104.
Also, he would have to be at least 98 in 1993 (Rosebud) to be older than George
Burns.

Yes, I remember that, I was asking when she ate seafood.

How do you know that?<

Well, it obviously couldn't have been SLH, so the only credible explanation is
that it's another dog not owned by the Simpsons. Gimme a Q, gimme an E, gimme
a D, what's that spell...

Yes we do. THOH-III show's the cat's tombstone.

"The Ultimate Guide" refers to the book. The little dedication of the book is
to Snowball, and it shows a black cat rather than a white one. I was saying
that the book, and I think THOH-III shows a black cat.

Okay, I remember that now.  So, Snowball I died in 1989, but I'm definite that she was white, because in "Lisa's Sax", she was waving the fan in her tail over a large ice block for lack of an air conditioner.  And we all know how Homer got one in th end...  "Got him, Dad!"

Anyone noiced the following about Krusty Gets Busted?

a. The judge has Homer's voice
"Can it be the hero of child literacy can't even read himself" or something
thereabouts

b. Why the hell is Herschal refered to as Krusty the Clown in court? It is a
house of law, Goddammit!

c. When Bob walks though the door crying, the way he enters the room is an
illusion!

d. Kent Brockman says Krusty is on a rival station, and in another episode
Krusty's ratings are lower than Channel Ocho's, but in "Bart Gets Famous"
Krusty, Bumble Bee Man and Brockman are all in the channel 6 studio?

And a mistake in A Complete Guide (can someone pass this on to the right

Could be like here where very occasionally BBC1 screens a Channel 4
production, or a BBC production appears on ITV. Or more likely like how
Anglia produces shows that appear on Carlton and Central and vice versa.. Or
it could just be a continuity error :)
