Why is Ian Maxtone-Graham so hated in a.t.s? I keep reading sarcastic comments
about him. Even the L.I.S.A. suggests us to send hate mail for him to Matt
Groening's postal adress.

I think the episodes he wrote were OK: "Burns, Baby, Burns" is funny, "The
City of New York vs. Homer Simpson" is very good, "The Trouble With
Trillions" is HILARIOUS and I have no problems with "Trash of the Titans". If
I had to choose a writer to hate it would be Ken Keeler, because of his
constant changes in continuity ("The Principal and the Pauper" seriously
damaged Seymour Skinner, "The Brother from Another Series" made Sideshow Bob
a good guy, "Two bad Neighbors" introduced that never before seen big house
in front of OFF's), but I'd never get to the extreme of hate him so much.

So, I just want to know why everybody in this newsgroup hates Ian Maxtone
Graham.

For the same reason 90% of us hate Mitbastard: He insults us! Although
Maxtone-Graham is much nicer and dignified about it. And unlike Mitbastard,
Maxtone-Graham cares little about the show; he never saw an episode before
joining the production staff.

Some further background: Mr. Maxtone-Graham was interviewed by a British
newspaper, and he got to talking about the fans on a.t.s. He said that they
were a "beetle-browed" lot who had no life outside "The Simpsons." He's
entitled to his opinion, of course, but most of felt that it was in
inaccurate and needlessly mean-spirited remark to make. (Not to mention
that insulting your best customers is poor business practice.)

After slagging us off, he went on to say that before he joined the writing
staff, he hardly ever watched the show and didn't know that much about it.
Most of us cared about the show to watch and know things about it, and this
attitude struck us as a little cavalier. Okay, he did not have to be a
trivia expert -- even Leonard Nimoy got stumped at "Trek" conventions -- but
to -brag- about his ignorance? Sheesh!

Let's just say that it's a good thing young Ian Maxton-Graham didn't choose
a career in public relations, or he'd be on the dole by now.

Let's put it this way: The man is "fit" to be a writer and a co-producer of
"the Simpsons", and when he joined he did not know the names of the Flanders
kids. He actually admitted this, and went on to day he had watched maybe two
episodes in his life.

This is a big, big problem.....I understand the fresh approach to the show, but
how can you bring in total strangers to the show's universe? His episodes
hardly resemble Simpsons episodes at all; I feel like I'm watching a completely
different show. His lack of knowledge on the show's history is crystal clear.

Also, he thinks all Simpsons fans are a bunch of low-life know-it-alls with no
reason to criticize him at all except that we have nothing better to do in our
lives....."that's why they're on the internet and I'm writing the show" he
says. He thinks he should be immune to criticism despite the fact he can't
write his way out of a paper bag.

I'd be insulted if I knew what "beetle-browed" meant.
