What did she say? In tonight's episode -Lisa's wedding to Hugh- they
made it seem like a big deal she didn't speak. I know she doesn't have
much to say in most episodes, but I could swear I've heard her utter
entire words before.

In the nine years that the show has been on, she has only said one word
"Daddy".
It was the episode in which Homer tells Bart and Lisa the story of their
first words.

Actually, Maggie said something like "da da diddily do." This was in the
episode where Homer and Marge were determined to be unfit parents and Bart,
Lisa and Maggie were taken to live with the Flanders family.

>Peace,

You both have also forgotten one: On the Hellfish episode when Mr. Burns
steals the valuable paintings and Grandpa and Bart go after him, Maggie says a
word. A part in the episode, Mr. Burns breaks into the Simpsons house, and
accidently crashes into Maggies room. When he does crash into her room, you can
clearly hear her say "Santa?".
I dont know if this was a syndication cut, but I am 100% that this is
real, for I have the ep on tape when it first aired. If you dont understand me,
email me and I'll try to help ya. Good-day.

Thanks.

I can think of 2 other "instances"
One when Homer leaves Bart on the soccor field and he can't remember what he's
supposed to do (Brothers from the same planet) Maggie pulls out her pacifier
and burps the word"Baaarrrrt)

Another: Bart is having a dream-like sequence (i think it's Bart vs.
Thanksgiving) in which people are hovering around his head and blaming him for
everything, including a VIOSION of maggie who says, WITHOUT moving her mouth,
"It's your fault I can't talk"

How do you like them apples?

THere is another one where maggie speaks. It's in the episode where bart
runs away from home after ruining Thanksgiving. Hew returns home, but
before entering he envisions going in and then sees himself getting
blamed for everything: Abraham for being to old, Lisa bveing 8, Homer
being dumb ect. In this sequence, Maggie says something along the lines
of " You're to blame for me not being able to speak", or something along
those lines. I only saw this episode last night , so i know it's true.

Treehouse of horror V:

Maggie says 'This is indeed a perplexing universe'.

And I live in the UK where that scene was completely cut!

In one episode where Homer and Marge are telling the kids the story of how
they met and got married and had them, they were talking about Lisa's first
word. Lisa insisted on calling Homer "Homer" instead of daddy. Right before
the episode ends, Homer puts maggie in her crib and says something like, "I
hope you never say a single word." Right after he leaves the room she pulls
the pacifier out of her mouth and utters, "Daddy." This is one of the most
touching episodes I have ever seen.

Er, actually Ben it's a "disturbing" universe and the only reason I knew
this was because I downloaded the video clip from your page. :)

That was Lisa. Even the Episode Guide states that.

If you want to see the Bart VS. Thanksgiving episode, you can buy it from Fox
for 7.99 with another episode on the tape.

She spoke a few lines (at least the closed captioning said she did) in the
earliest Tracy Ullman shorts. And in fantasy sequences/Halloween episodes
in the show proper, she spoke a few more (you may be thinking of her
telling Bart "It's your fault I can't talk!" during a nightmare in [7F07]
"Bart vs. Thanksgiving"). However, in the show's "real life", she has said
exactly one word, English--"Daddy".

Well, depends on if we count "Ned-speak" as English-in the show where the
Flanders are foster parents to Bart, Lisa, & Maggie she calls Ned
"Dadily-doodily".
