Frank Grimes' voice was supplied, according to the credits, by Frank (or
Fred?) Welker. Since I have never heard of this person and it IS sweeps
month, can this be another guest pseudonym? If so, can someone tell me
who it was?

Frank Welker supplies the vocal sounds of Santa's Little Helper, on those
rare episodes when SLH is to be heard. He was also the voice of
Princess, Lisa's pony, seasons ago.

Hank Azaria played Frank Grimes.

I looked up Frank Welker on the Internet Movie Database. The name sounded
unfamiliar to me too, but he has done voices in dozens of cartoons going
back to the late 70s.

Frank Welker is famously known for doing animal voices. He plays
Santa's Little Helper, played Princess (Lisa's horse in 8F06) and the dog Mr.
Burns liked in this show. Incidently, his name turns up in almost anything
animated, such as The Transformers, Tiny TOon Adventures, Animaniacs, Muppet
Babies, The Lion King, etc. The man playing Frank Grimes was Hank Azaria,
signifying that Grimes could've easily been a regular character on the show.

Actually, while you may have never heard _of_ Frank Welker, you have
definitely heard him. He has been a very prominent voice actor since
the late 60's, when he was the voice of Fred on Scooby-Doo. Frequently
you'll find him voicing either supervillian-types like Megatron
or Dr. Claw, or most often doing animal sound effects, like SLH or that
dog on Animaniacs. Welker probably has more voice acting experience than
the entire cast of The Simpsons. (not counting Tress MacNeille)

I think he was the voice of Baby Kermit on "Muppet Babies," if I recall
correctly.

The credits didn't actually specifically state that Frank Welker was the
voice of Frank Grimes, and I don't think he was. I assumed that Frank
Grimes was being voiced by one of the regulars because he didn't sound
like Frank Welker (he has a distinctive voice). Frank Welker, as pointed
out by a previous responder, does most animal sounds heard on any animated
program.

I have to argue about that, mattman. Frank Welker has much, much, much
more voice over experience than Tress. Though she is a brillant voice
artist, Frank has actually been doing voices professionally since he
was a kid. He's currently so busy that he can't except staring roles
in cartoons and he has a courner on the special vocal effect market
for movies.

Yeah, it sounded like Hank Azaria was playing Grimey to me. Hank has a
kind of distinctive voice when he goes ballistic (like "You're operating
without a t-437 Springfield! I mean, my God!")

Frank Welker was the dog most likely.

That's true. In addition to the Simpson's pets, Frank Welker did Abu for
Disney's "Aladdin", and voiced the creatures in the movie "Stargate". He
also does Buttons and other charactors for Warner's "Animaniacs".

Maybe Welker played Mr. Burns new vice president.

Now, is that a cool job or what??!

FYI, I recall reading in this ng that after Dustin Hoffman and Michael
Jackson used pseudonyms (and I believe that Michael Jackson's use of a
pseudonym was to avoid copyright problems with his music publishers
and/or record company), the producers of the show basically said that
from now on, anybody who wanted to do a voice-over on The Simpsons
would be obliged to use their real names, because they weren't going
to allow any more pseudonyms.

Frank Welker was also the voice of "Fred" in Scooby Doo. He was also the
voice of that blind guy that owned "Laddie" the dog in one recent Simpson's
episode. These are the only times I've heard him talk in a normal voice.
