I have a question to which I could not find an answer in the FAQ.

In the episode where Marge goes to jail, Springfield purchases a
statue of Jimmy ("He's history's greatest monster!") Carter
with the epitaph "Malaise Forever."

Can someone tell me what this is a reference to? I assume it's
something political because i don't know squat about politics.

Thankyouvurymuch!

In 1979 during a recession, Carter delivered a speech to the nation where
he talked about a loss of national will. While the word "malaise" was never
used, the speech was almost immendiately dubbed "The Malaise Speech" and
came to symbolize, correctly or incorrectly, Carter's administration.
