What's so wrong with season 12 anyway?

Mike Reed
nothing, except maybe Mike Scully finally got it through his thick skull to
produce some decent simpsons episodes.
simpsons used to be hilarious.. now it only causes a chuckle now and then

First of all, I think both seasons are the worst in Simpsons history because of
wacky and boring stories, characters being lifeless and flat, and failed jokes.
(There's no way season 12 can be as good as seasons 8 and 9, as some are
implying).
Season 11 was a little better because there was a little less expositionary
dialogue, less self-irony (only a few episodes last year were self-ironic,
almost every episode this year makes fun of the writers' poor writing abilities
and deals with some sort of weird conspiracy). Most importantly, season 11
episodes were more focused, with a certain theme. Episodes dealt with birth
(Eight Misbehaving), death (Alone Again), religious showiness (Faith Off),
self-esteem (Pygmoelian), alcoholism (Days of Wine and D'ohses), housekeeping
(Little Big Mom), marketing (Grift of the Magi), being rich (The Mansion
Family), rebels (Take My Wife Sleaze), fame (Hello Gudder). Of course, these
issues had been dealt with before in previous seasons, in MUCH better ways, but
even season 11's episodes was focused on its themes, and thus had sharper
satire. In season 12, I don't even know what the episodes are about. Was New
Kids on the Blecch about pop muisic or about the navy, and was it praising pop
music or satirizing it? Skinner's Snese of Snow, Lisa the Treehugger, Hungry
Hungry Homer, Simpson Safari, and Worst Episode Ever were also episodes that
were VERY vague on what the writers were trying to accomplish. On the other
hand, season 12 has had less wacky situations and weird plot twists. So season
11 is only slightly better than season 12.
I agree with you that both seasons should be considered as very very bad, but
I悲 say season 12 is slightly better than season 11 (grade D- for 11, grade D
for 12) but still a disgrace to the show and to the early vision of Matt
Groening.
Season 11 is total crap (most of it) while season 12 has good parts but many
episodes are spoiled by wackyness, weird plot twists, pointless endings and a
certain tastelessness.

Some of you may be shocked at the low rating of season 6 -- I know a few of you
even had it at the top. I'm sorry, but I really feel that the show completely
bottomed out in the last few weeks of that season. It started well, but
episodes like "Bart's Comet", "Lemon of Troy", and "Lisa's Wedding" were
absolutely terrible -- and "Round Springfield", and "A Star is Burns" were
even worse. And if I'm not mistaken, "Radioactive Man" was a holdover from
Season 6, and that may be my least favorite episode ever. I realize that not
many of you will agree, but I really think the show hit rock bottom in the last
few weeks of Season 6.
"Quality Shmality. If I had a TV show, I'd run that sucker in the ground."
Really? I know we are both fans of the classic seasons but here I don愒 agree
with you.
"Lisa愀 Wedding" is one of my all-time favourits and a hundred times better
than the new Future episode "Bart to the Future". I also like "Lemon of Troy"
for some reason.
Personally, I悲 say season 5 is the worst of the first seven seasons and season
7 the closest to the classic years and thus the best. Season 6 is in the middle
and IMO better than 5.

I can certainly agree that "Lisa's Wedding" is much better that "Bart to the
Future" -- but I still don't like either of them. It seems to me that Lemon of
Troy could fit right in to Season 11 -- it was full of silly gags like the
rub-on tattoos, and all the kids semed out-of-character, especially Milhouse.
And what was with the voice of Todd Flanders? (Although I must admit I got a
good laugh when Bart spray-painted his feet trying to fly away, and at Martin's
line: "Spring forth burly protector, and save me!") I didn't get any laughs
from "Round Springfield;" and as for "A Star is Burns" -- ugh. I don't even
want to think about that one. I guess Season 6 overall was not that bad, but a
couple episodes anyway were as bad as anything I have ever seen. And I can see
your point about Season 5 -- the first signs of the decline can be found there.
P.S. -- Please forgive the lateness of my reply.

Dear Marge,
Thanks for the fab painting of Yours Truly. I hung it on me wall. You're
quite an artist. In answer to your question, yes, we do have hamburgers and
fries in England. But we call French fries `chips'. Love, Ringo.
PS: Forgive the lateness of my reply.
