First I listed all the states in the U.S. with a town of Springfield, they
were: Massachusetts, Missouri, Illinois, and Virginia.
Then I used logical reasoning to cancel out the possibility of them living in
Springfield, Illinois, because Springfield is the capital of Illinois, and they
refer to their state capital as "Capital City" so the actual city isn't given
away.
Now there was just Missouri, Virginia, and Massachusetts. Next I recalled the
episode when Homer wanted to be an inventer, he visited the Thomas Edison
Museum, so I looked it up on-line and found one in New Jersey and one in Ohio.
This lead me to eliminate Missouri, because Springfield Missouri is too far
away from either one to go there and back in a day. With only two possible
locations left, I had to do a lot more research on all the episodes of The
Simpsons. I then recalled the Spring Break episode when Bart got a fake ID and
whent out driving with his friends, they had discussed going to Disney World in
Florida, of Knoxville, Tennessee. Since they ended up going to Knoxville, I
couldn't just cancel out Mass. yet, I needed more conclusive Info. After some
hard digging, I found out that one of the producers went to Winston Churchill
High School in Potomac, Maryland. This lead me to lean even more to the
suspision that they lived in Verginia. Then I remembered the NASA episode, so
I checked to see if there was any kind of NASA facility near either of the 2
remaining Springfields, and I found one near Greenbelt, Maryland, which is very
close to the border of Verginia. Now I was setteled on them living in
Verginia, but my last clue was the neighboring town of Shelbeyville, which is
mentioned many times on many episodes, so I looked through a map of Verginia
and found Charlottesville, which is damn close enough for me. So I have
concluded that the Home State of The Simpsons family is Verginia!.......
Springfield, Verginia!!!

>springfield doesn't have an exact location. if the writers need a thomas

>they can!

Yeah, Springfield may just be in Verginia. It obviously isn't in
Virginia, because everyone with half a brain knows it's not in any of
the 50 states because this is a freakin MAKE BELIEVE CARTOON. I can
believe that it might be in Verginia, a make believe state. But I'm
leaning more towards North Tacoma.
You missed a few states there smartboy.... Oregon for one.

Virginia.
And, it *could* be an entirely fictional Springfield.... That was the
impression I always got, anyway.

And because there are more than FOUR Springfield's in the U.S. :) ! For
example, there's one in Ohio that he didn't mention. I should know, I live by
it :) . Good-day.

Okay?
Just a couple of thougts:
1 - The origional poster spelled VIRGINIA correctely all though his post except
in the very last reference. Even that was, I think, a dig on how some people
(hicks ?) might pronounce the word. Why the hell did so many people nag him
on that. Anyone who did is stupid for not noticing all the times he spelled it
correctly.
2 - Yes, yes - we all know that the Simpsons AND any town that they live in is
fictional. NO SHIT. ~ What this guy and others who take up this question
are implicitly saying is, "IF the Simpsons were real and IF the town they live
in were considered to be one of the real towns in this world - THEN can I, from
the information given in the shows, find one springfield that matches all of
the show's information."
3 - OF COURSE, there will not be an EXACT match. No one town will have, for
example, an Evergreen Terrace with a Flander's family living next to a Simpsons
family with a Millhous family near by and a Dr.Nick Riviera in the yellow
pages. In looking for the fake Springfield there is another implicit
agreement that only some types of clues (mostly geographic ones) will be
considered.
4 - As for this particualar attempt is is extreamly flawed. If the person
really spent "months" on it as they said - well - they aren't the brightest
bulb in the house.

By the way, I could've sworn that in tonight's syndicated ep ("Two Bad
Neighbors"), Homer said that Evergreen Terrace was in west Florida. Did I hear
right? I know he didn't actually give away the location of Springfield.
