This happened on tonight's (syndicated) ep of "The Simpsons." Gabbo
(tried to replace Krusty) had said "that ought ought to hold the
s.o.b.'s." then on the news, kent brockman said the same thing. If
this is not where it came from, then let's pretend it did.

Originally, it was thought to have been said on any number of children's
television shows, although nobody has had any facts to back it up. It has
never been documented and nobody has every actually *seen* Uncle Don (or
Bozo, or Soupy Sales, or whoever) say this quote. For more info, check out

Well, that may be so, but Soupy Sales definitely DID ask the kiddies to
beg their mommies and daddies to send him a check. Krusty also did this
once, although I forget when.

Actually, in "Krusty Gets Kancelled" [9F19], Krusty offers to send a check
to kids for watching his show (Fine print-"Checks will not be honored.")
So, similar to the Soupy Sales story, but inverted.

This isn't exactly the story I heard about Soupy Sales, but it's similar.
He was supposedly suspended from the show for trying to teach the alphabet
to his puppets, White Fang and Black Tooth. Soupy would hold up a flash
card with a letter on it, and White Fang (or Black Tooth) would identify
it as A, B, C, and so on. When he held up a card with an F, White Fang
and Black Tooth both said it was a K. He tried it again, and they both
insisted it was a K. Soupy said, "How come every time I hold up
F, you see K?"
I heard that after that happened, they took him off the air for a month
or two, but they took him off for good when he supposedly asked all the
little boys and girls in TV-land to "Go find Mommy's pocketbook, and
take out all the green pieces of paper with people's pictures on them,
and send them to me"
I remember the show a little bit, but I never saw either of these two
episodes, but Soupy _was_ pretty crazy, so he _could_ have done it.
