Well, the "J" in Homer's name stands for Jay, and the "J" in Bartholomew's
stands for Jojo (honestly-I read it in Simpsons Comics!), but I'm not sure
what Abe's middle name is. Who cares about Grandpa anyway!

I'm just guessing here, but I'd bet you a lotta money that the J comes
from Rocky and Bullwinkle. Rocky and Bullwinkle were Rocket Jay Squirrel
and Bullwinkle Jay Moose, the Jay being Jay Ward, their creator. There
are a lot of parallels between OFF and R&B--it would make a good master's
thesis for someone.

Not really,

they actually BOTH stand for JEBIDIAH, after the town founder, that is
according to some of the actual episodes.

Comic or no comic the J stands for Jebediah, everyone knows that, perhaps you
were reading "The Thompsons" comics. We're talking about the show not the
comics anyway.

Isn't just that all cartoon characters' middle initials are J? Think about it.

Okay. The "J." as the middle initials was originally meant as a tribute to
Jay Ward, creator of Bullwinkle cartoons.

One day in the recording studio, Matt Groening asked Nancy Cartwright what
Bart's "J." stood for, and she answered, "Jo-Jo." (Source: Matt's column
in Bongo Comics)

I believe this is all in the FAQ at http://www.snpp.com

Wrong again! You're both idiots... here's the real story, you must be
eighteen :)

What does the "J" stand for in Homer J. and Bart J. Simpson? =

MG says that Homer's middle initial is a token of admiration for Rocky
and Bullwinkle (Rocket J. Squirrel and Bullwinkle J. Moose), whose
initials were in honor of their creator, Jay Ward. =

According to MG, Bart's middle name is Jo-Jo, and not Jebediah as stated
previously in the Rainy Day Fun Book. One can only guess that some facts
got lost when the RDFB was made. The name was given to him by none other
than Nancy Cartwright. =

Thankyou to the good folks at http://miso.wwa.com/~mkurth/lisa-2.html
for that little snippet, anyone want to beg to differ now? I mean, where
the hell do you get JEBIDIAH from? Also, I'm still not convinced about
the Jo-Jo, that's a bit of a rip off theory if you ask me because it has
never been shown in any episode (has it?) and I say that it's only fact
once it has been on TV! Yeaaahh.. TV is good. Homer we need to talk. But
then I won't be watching TV, you can see the bind I'm in. Teacher,
mother... secret lover. Am I crapping on yet or what? Sounds
interesting... Marge, I think if you told me, I would have remembered, I
mean, I'm not an idiot.

I heard that the "J" stands for jo-jo. I also saw that for Bart's name
in the comics.

Actually, the Js in the middle names of the Simpson males (Abe, Homer and
Bart) were never mentioned on the show; if you guys want the inside poop on
what the Js stand for, read the great book of alt.tv.simpsons, otherwise
known as the FAQ. So, get your copy today...that address is f...@snpp.com
