In another episode when the hurricane destroyed his home he committed
himself to a mental hospital. There the doctor showed him a film of
himself 30 years earlier. In that film he was about 10.
So really how old is Ned? How can both episodes be reconciled? Thanks!
My advice is to ride it out in hopes that everything will rap up nicely so
that next week we can have another wacky adventure.
Short answer: North Takoma.

They can't. And I for one refuse to believe that Ned is 60. That episode
("Viva Ned Flanders") falls into the category of "The Episodes That Ruined
a Character Forever" along with "The Principal and the Pauper," "Eight
Misbehavin'," the episode where Lisa has a crush on Nelson, and, of
course, the recent episode where Maude dies.
Mike
Interesting. I always thought Viva Ned... kind of redemed his character. I
think Hurricane Neddy kind of ruined his character. It tells us that Ned
hasn't been nice to people because of his Christian values, but because he was
spanked repeatedly for a year or whatever, and from then on, he was not going
to say "diddly" again. That sounds like ruining a character.
Now, in Viva Ned Flanders, Ned is revealed to be 60, but everything else about
him is exactly how it was before. Since his age was never revealed before, I
really don't see anything wrong with that.
Viva Ned Flanders gets my vote for "most underrated of Season 10."
Solon
I don't see your point. "Viva Ned Flanders" showed that Ned would always be a
sycophant. And the same goes for Skinner in "The Principal & The Pauper."
"Eight Misbehavin'" was a damn funny episode, IMO indisputably the best of the
recent Apu trilogy. If anything "ruined" Apu, it was "The Two Mrs.
Nahasapeemapetilans," but even that's a stretch as we rarely see any
repercussions (as opposed to "Viva Ned Flanders," "The Principal & The Pauper"
and "Lisa's Date With Density").
"Alone Again, Natura-diddly" was terrible, but it ruined a character that was
never funny to begin with, and who had also lost any and all dignity in
"Brother's Little Helper" and all other Season Eleven episodes..

Oh, yeah, I forgot "Hurricane Neddy." That episode also ruined Ned.

I just don't like the idea of Ned, who had previously been
"Mr. Perfect," suddenly hearing snaps, crackles, and pops in his
bones.

I guess there were parts of it that were still good; it just wasn't good
Ned-wise. But I'm not a season-10-basher. I like the new stuff.
Mike
He is a senior citizen(About 60) but looked 40(like Homer in his late 30s).
Homer found Ned using senior citizen card and accused him of fraud. Flanders
then realised he did not live his life to the fullest and engaged Homer to
teach him how to live!!!!!!!! Both went to Las Vegas to PARTY ! and got
married to two women!

Ok, perhaps that was a bit too far. I just think the whole idea of "Mr. Perfect"
being 60 when everyone thought he was 40 makes him seem all the more perfect.

I would say it wasn't good Homer-wise, but I don't want to start any arguments here.

couldn't you have at least replaced xylophone with something a little
relevant like, oh I don't know, ageing process

Perhaps you were looking for another word. Smithers is a sycophant. No,
"sucking up to god" doesn't make someone a sycophant.

PS they had Lisa's Pony on recently and I almost died laughing at the "Those
aren't even words" part. Especially when Homer smiles in the dark.

Excellent point.

I love that part. I hope everyone remembers that "sna" is also a word.
Mike
It's *Snuh*, Mr. Morbius, not "sna".
Even the esteemed Simpsonoligist Curtis Gibby agreed after careful examination.

*Nooooo!* This is not happening! This is *not* happening!
It's "sna"! If it were "snuh," it would have rhymed with "buh," which he
says just before!
Besides, it wouldn't be funny if it were "snuh"! The whole brilliance of
that scene is the way Homer says "sna"!

Oh. OK.

Exactlydidadiddly!
It rhymes, like the Snuh thread rhymes, which is the whole idea behind it.

I always thought it was "sneh" in that particular instance (after "buh" of course).
In "Secrets of a Successful Marriage", Homer asks the kids, "Do you think I'm
slow?". Bart responds with "buh" and Lisa with "sneh". At least, that's the way I
heard it...

Hmm... I actually liked The Principle and the Pauper - and I don't think Nelson
was "ruined" at all in the crush episode - but I whole-heartedly agree with you
on the other two.
