okay, i just wanna start this off by saying that it woulda been 10 times
funnier if the kids had been named "Bort and Eliza." but that's a
different posting altogether.

Now, i think that Lester and Eliza were the elder siblings of the
one-eyebrowed baby (Maggie's enemy) and one day there is going to be an
all out war in Springfield (perhaps including the sinister koala
stowaway).

Or, maybe Lester and Eliza were a symbol of the Simpsons downfall.
Perhaps Groening want us to know that the show is about to run full
circle. Notice that Lester and Eliza were drawn crudely the way Bart and
Lisa were drawn on the Tracey Ullman Show. Maybe this symbolizes the end
of an era -- the end of a happy decade (almost) of Bart and Lisa solving
Springfields problems. suddenly now it's Lester and Eliza reuniting
Krusty with his estranged wife and suddenly it's Lester and Eliza helping
Apu out of jail. Usually these topics would take up a whole episode each
of Bart and Lisa's antics.

these are just ramblings, but does anyone have any ideas?

Maybe they just did it to make you go "what the hell was that?". I know
I did. Just my opinion.

You forget, J. P.--this is alt.tv.simpsons. _NOTHING_ can go
unexplained, so we must all bandy about theories as to why everything up
to this point has happened, even if there is no real good reason.

Why, just look at this thread I found back in August 1995...

What's sad is, I can't just automatically dismiss this as a joke...

So? Go watch an old Hanna-Barbara cartoon, and check the character's eyes...
They're the same color as the character's skin! Even black people!
That is just a little bit creepy...

I guess I agree, except, I felt strangely empty at the end. Like I was
waiting for something else to happen, you know, like wake up from a bad
dream or a final punchline or something. I don't mind "what the hell was
that" when I actually get the joke, did I miss something?

I also wondered if Lester and Eliza would be recurring characters or not.

Oh goodness, no...

STOP THIS THREAD, PLEASE! I only brought up the topic as the _stupidest_
thing I could think of that a.t.s. could discuss like it mattered. Don't
prove me right...

Actually, this message is from Marge M. Starbrod (the M stands
for Mildred).

HE-LOOOOO! Didn't anybody notice that Lester and Eliza are
just cheesy take-offs of the OLD Bart and Lisa? You know, from
the Tracy Ullman shorts? _I_ noticed that they looked familiar
from the start. It took me five minutes to realize where I'd
seen them before. They looked _exactly_ like Bart and Lisa in
the TU shorts from the eighties! Any devoted Simpsons freak
could tell! Please! I hope you yo-yos realize this and take
this to your heads! And shut up about Smithers' sexuality! If
his character were revoked, I bet you'd have nothing to talk
about! And Springfield is nowhere!

HE-LOOOOO! This subject was already discussed extensively on a.t.s.
Please read the newsgroup for a while before you yell at the contributors
for things that they've supposedly "ignored".
