The Simpsons Movie
Genre: Thriller/Comedy.

Studio: 20th Century Fox/Universal Pictures.
Production Company: Imagine Entertainment.

Project Phase: Greenlighted.

Who's In It: John Goodman (Homer Simpson); Julie Kavner (Marge Simpson); Mae
Whitman (Lisa Simpson); Haley Joel Osmond (Bart Simpson); John Tutorro (Ned
Flanders); Glenn Close (Maude Flanders); Morgan Freeman (Doctor Hibberd); Tim
Robbins (Principal Skinner); Eric Stoltz (Otto); Sean Connery (Groundskeeper
Willy); Janeane Garafolo (Ms. Krabapple); Kelli Williams (Ms. Hoover); Billy
Bob Thornton (Mayor Quimby); Dan Aykroyd (Chief Wiggum); Harry Shearer
(Reverend Lovejoy); Illeana Douglas (Mrs. Lovejoy); Robin Williams (Krusty the
Klown); Steve Martin (Kent Brockman); Hank Azaria (Apu); Mike Myers (Moe);
Robert Duvall (Mr. Burns); Christian Slater (Smithers); Oliver Platt (Barney);
Denis Leary (Lenny); Dave Chappelle (Karl); Jack Lemmon (Gil); Gene Hackman
(Grampa Simpson).

Who's Making It: Robert Altman (Director); David Mamet, William Goldman
(Screenwriters); Brian Grazer (Producer); Matt Groening, James L. Brooks, Sam
Simon (Executive Producers); Stan Winston (Maggie Special FX); Danny Elfman
(Musical Score).

Premise: When the local nuclear power plant is sabotaged, working man Homer
Simpson is assigned to find the culprit... even if it means investigating every
single resident of Springfield.

Comments: After languishing for years, the Simpsons are given a makeover, and
transported into the world of live action. Hopefully this film will follow in
the footsteps of previous cartoon adaptations, such as The Flintstones,
Pokemon, and Howard's End.

Scoop Feedback:

December 31, 1999... According to an interview in Producing Groupies, Brian
Grazer offered the directorial position to Ron Howard. Howard was forced to
decline, as he was busy wrapping up directing duties on Who Wants to Babysit a
Millionaire: A True Story. [Scoop sent in by some guy named Bick Brockwell.]

January 6, 2000... David Mamet (Glengarry Glen Ross, The Spanish Prisoner) and
William Goldman (All The President's Men, The General's Daughter) are
sollaborating on the screenplay, which will apparently give huge character arcs
to each and every character. Sources say the script is clocking in at a
industry record of 1,563 pages. Rumour has it that 20th Century Fox may want to
cut a couple of scenes. [The twenty-page email detailing this rumour was sent
in by p. t. anderson.]

January 12, 2000... Robert Altman has beaten out David Lynch, John Woo, and
Nicholas Roeg for the director's chair. [Scoop sent in by Alan Smithee.]

January 15, 2000... As casting begins, we hear that the role of Maggie, which
hasn't been cast yet, will be brought to life using CGI. [Scooped by Jar Jar
Binks.]

January 17, 2000... John Goodman has won the role of Homer, beating out Philip
Seymour Hoffman. Oliver Platt may also have been up for the role, but has since
been cast as Barney. [Reported by an irate Dan Castenellatalletenalella.]

January 20, 2000... In an effort to tone down his wild child side and bring out
a more angsty, intellectual side, Altman casts Haley Joel Osmond (The Sixth
Sense) as Bart. One rumoured plot point has Bart interacting with both Lionel
Hutz and Troy McLure, only to find out that they're both ghosts. [Scoop posted
by Blair.]

January 21, 2000... The rumour about Bart seeing ghosts has been debunked by
David Mamet himself. Apparently the rumour was started by William Goldman.
[Scoop sent in by David Mamet. Obviously.]

February 3, 2000... A documentary about The Simpsons Movie and Altman's life is
in production, titled Eat My Short Cuts. [Reported by Griffin Mill.]

February 18, 2000... Stan Winston is hospitalised after he confuses his work on
The Simpsons Movie with his work on A Norwegian Werewolf in Monaco, and has
designed Maggie with fangs and body hair. [Reported by an Israeli Vampire in
the Burkina Faso.]

April 1, 2000... Production is soon to wrap on the film which is predicted to
break all records set by Titanic, E.T., and Heaven's Gate. Fox and Universal
are planning to build eight million more cinemas around the world specifically
for this film. [Reported by Spielberg Bonapart.]

You bet! Sean Connery as Willie! He-he-he-he-he. Another interesting
thing - some Simpsons voice actors actually look like some characters they
are voicing. I can totally see Harry Shearer as Reverend Lovejoy, Hank
Azaria as Apu and Julie Kavner as Marge.

And Ron Howard is attached to direct. Well, he expressed interest.

That's 'Therapists', not "The Rapists".

I don't really see the connection there.. or at all, really. I've never seen
anyone but Bob "Mr. Baseball" Uecker as a live-action Kent Brockman..
