Two months ago in the USA there was a new Simpsons episode in which Homer
came across a box of Japanese detergent in the Springfield town dump. The
detergent's mascot looked just like Homer. Homer phoned Japan and asked
what the deal was. They sent him a videotape with the Japanese commercial
for the soap. The product's name translated into English was Mister
Sparkle. The commercial was an exact parody of Japanese TV commercials,
and the slogan, translated into English, was "For lucky best wash, use
Mister Sparkle!" A VERY funny episode.

as the guy in the comic book store would say "mr. sparkle is the best
episode ever!" homer finds out that he looks just like a popular japanese
advertising logo called mr. sparkle. then they show a japanese commercial
that is perfect! it is not offensive for making fun of japanese art, it is
an exact imitation of it which makes it even funnier.

Mr. Sparkle was a japanese character found on a laundry detergent box by homer at the dump,
he looked exactly like homer. In the end it turned out to be a qouincidence that it looked
like homer, it was a merger of two logos of a fish and a lightbulb.

Actually, according to my brother's friend who is very involved in
Japanese television Marc Miyake, the Japanese in the commercial was off and
the commercial resembles nothing that is advertised in Japan. But it was
moreover parody of some of the bizarre things created in Japan. Spur of the
moment things. Regardless, the commercial was hilarious anyway.

However, 1 minute or so of hilarity doesn't make up for an overall
weak episode ("In Marge We Trust").

A subplot in the eighth-season episode "In Marge We Trust" involves Homer
seeing what appears to be his face on a box of laundry detergent from
Japan.
