So it IS possible for a new Simpsons episode to not get dubbed the worst
ever.

Ice hockey, the greatest of all games, shares with soccer the basic
idea of putting something into a net behind a goalkeeper and has the
added bonus of actually doing it.

hmmmm....tells you something doesn't it?

What about the episode which squandered the most potential? Come on, folks,
the Simpsons used to be FUNNY. I still watch the series in syndication each
day (and laugh just as hard at the old episodes). The last two seasons SUCK
BIGTIME. Remember the episode where Krusty fakes his own death to get out
of tax problems? (Troy McLure: We'll be sitting shiva at eight and ten
o'clock, adults only for the late show, it gets a little blue). Name one
joke in this episode which came close.
Okay, there was one, the racecar babes who did the t-shirt salute, hahaha,
that was funny, I'll credit the writers for that one. It shows, though, how
the train has jumped its track. The old Simpsons used to cultivate a sense
of perposterous believability (one could imagine Troy McClure delivering the
eulogy at Krusty's funeral, that the shiva might include strippers, yadda
yadda, not so with the race car joke, no one even reacted).
What the hell happened? Did the Simpsons move all the funny writers to
Futurama? Or is its potential is now spent? I have a hard time
understanding how anyone over the age of five can not think that the quality
of the show has deteriorated significantly over the past two years. I have
friends (um, acquaintances) who never understood the show's appeal from day
one, I knew why, they were slow witted morons who couldn't keep up with the
satire. Maybe the producers are making a belated effort to keep everyone
happy.
