Why, why, why, why, why, why, WHY does Ned Flanders wear the same green
sweater over and over and over and over and over and over and over and
over again?

Everyone in The Simpsons wears the same clothes over and over and over and over and over and over and over and
over again.

Why pick on Ned? Homer wears the white polo shirt, Lisa wears the red dress,
Marge wears the blue dress, Bart wears the T-shirt and shorts, etc etc.
For that matter, why does Mickey Mouse always wear those white gloves? Why
doesn't Donald Duck wear pants? See? It's even worse than you think.

Ahhh, Chris-

You need to learn that reasoning with Heather about anything related to
Ned or Otto is futile. It does point up something interesting, though...
You are perhaps the person most enamored of Nedly-Dedly on this
newsgroup, whereas Heather is easily the one who most despises him.

I'm not going anywhere in particular with this, but then, that's true
with most of my posts! ;)

You can always go to DejaNews <http://www.dejanews.com> to see what we're
talking about. This petty little debate about Ned's green sweater led
into a full-scale "Ned is NOT a hypocrite" flamewar back in April. (Make
sure you either use DN's old database or use a query filter, limiting the
newsgroups to alt.tv.simpsons.)

Ahhh Rick,

See, I missed all of heather's pre-summer postings. I missed the Otto
<shudder...give that boy some soap> love fest. Tis my great regret...

However, I cannot believe that I am the only one who thinks Ned's cute
<in that adorably dorky sort of way>. I seem to recall several
individual's with a soft spot for one tall blue-haired female
<Marge...but not Marge>. Anybody willing to admit that green is a lovely
color on Ned?

As the immortal Cliff Clayvin pointed out, Donald's feathers are
long enough to cover his prvate parts, so he doesn't need to wear pants, while
Mickey's fur is way too short to conceal his genitalia.

Almost all characters in all cartoons always wear the same thing.
That's because animating them in the same colors all the time
is faster and cheaper than redesigning the way they look just
for a change of clothes.

In many of the older shows there have been jokes about this.
I distinctly remember Lisa saying, "It feels like I've been wearing
the same dress for five years!" but I don't remember which
episode. It may have been the one where Marge goes to jail
and Homer is responsible for washing the clothes.
