Why must people constantly use any expression of love between two males as
an example of homosexuality? Im a woman, I tell my friends i love them. I
know men that tell other men they love them, and they arent gay. Come on,
people, move on with your lives.

I think the joke is supposed to be that Barney's cognitive
abilities are hampered so much by his alchol intake that he either A.
Can't tell the diffrence between Moe and a woman B. Doesn't care or C.
Has fallen in love with moe for his beer.
I think it has been made clear throughout the series that Barney prefers
women (A prime example is the episode where Homer and marge first meet).
He also propsitions sevral other women throughout the series (patty+selma
at least once), and once comments to homer at the bar that he is
irresistable to women.

I think the idea behind that was that all Barney does is hang out at Moe's,
so he sent a Valentine to the closest thing he has to a friend. I think
Barney is more asexual than anything, except maybe beersexual
