Talk about being rough on somebody for misspelling a word...I wonder what you
would do if he had split an infinitive.
As far as that episode goes, yup, I completely agree, it was one of the
suckiest ones I've seen.

I agree. I'm really starting to get worried about the way this season's
going. The comet episode seemed tolerable compared to this
Austrailian mess. No real belly laughs though I don't think there
has ever been an episode which has not elicited a few solid
chuckles if nothing else. This one had the bare minimum.
I've always thought it was the hands-down best show ever on TV,
and I still do, but recent episodes have offered little to support that
argument. Let's hope they get back to the insanity and wall-to-wall laughs
of the third season (though there have been classics in every season)
--the Simpsons at its best spits out so much brilliant comedy that you find
new laughs after ten viewings. I actually lost interest in the Austrailia
episode and that rarely happens. Thankfully my local station has been
running 4 episodes every Sunday.

The previous inclusion just proves my earlier post (ref: Its a f--king cartoon people!)
Every episode seems to be the worst one some people have ever seen. Do you think that
by making sweeping generalizations like that everyone will share your opinions? Well
they don't. Obviously the people that you deal with in day to day life have learned to
ignore your feeble observations and opinions so now you choose a medium that you think
will lend your somewhat anonymous rantings credence. Everyone on this group is a self
proclaimed "professional" critic. The writers don't give a damn what you think. Every
week they take shots at you "nerds on the Internet". Maybe this is your way of fighting
back. Elayne, good job putting that socially-deficient geek Duane in his rightful
place. SJW, your attempt to defend your social equal through feigned superiority falls
well short. In fact it was pathetic. I had no strong feelings one way or the other
about the Austalia episode, but it did make me laugh so I'm not going to say "it
was the worst episode that I have ever seen". If every episode that you watch is the
worst then why don't you stop watching and let those of us who find humor in every
episode enjoy the shows. Once again no one gives a flying <beep> about your worthless
opinions! You negative people must be _really_ popular in social circles. Have a nice
life.

Maybe most of us have figured out that the TV doesn't speak to us directly,
Eric. Or that those mean old alt.tv.simpsons bullies don't, either. Or that
everybody is entitled to their opinion.

can get, but that's beside the point. I wonder what you think the
purpose of the newsgroup is? I was always under the impression that
newsgroups exist so that people can share opinions about various
subjects. I wasn't aware that one had to post benign messages that
everyone could agree with. As you point out in your posting the Simpsons
are just a cartoon, so why then are you so upset that I didn't like the
show. Why do you find it necessary to flame me for voicing that opinion
(BTW flamming is what true "computer nerds" do.)
I would also like to point out that despite reading this newsgrouop for
two years, the message I posted after last weeks show was the first I had
ever posted in the "worst show ever" vain. The point I am making is that
I really *did* think that it was the worst show ever.
As far as your comment about the writters constantly slagging "the
computer nerds" and not caring what is said on this group, well...unless
you *are* a writter for the Simpsons then I don't think you can speak for
them. I speak from experience when I tell you that people who are in
positions of power *do* read the newsgroups and they *do* listen to what
people say(why wouldn't they, its free market research.)
As far as the posting by "my social equal", I think that perhaps what he
was saying is that if the only thing you have to say about a posting is
to bitch about a spelling error, then, well.....don't bother, no one cares.

think that by sharing opinions that we're trying to influence other

Without going into detail, let me assure you that that is NOT the case. Many
of the writers are just as concerned as those of us believing in the Golden
Seasons.
