Why do they bash Missouri in the simpsons so much? For instance, Abe
simpson said "Ill be deep in the cold cold ground before i rocongnize
Missora." Im from Missouri and im deeply hurt by these kinds of
comments about Missouri. I would everyone from Missouri on this
newsgroup to Mail me with you thoughts. Together, we can make a
difference.

Ill have you know, that my land Missouri will not stand for the slander
and depracatin remarks that you soil its proud name with. My for fathers
and there for fathers before them put laid there Hats in Missora and
claimed that it was the land for gold and hunny. MISSORA WIL NOT
TOLERATE IT! I would Die for this land and my for fathers befor my for
fathers died for this land and its what makes this land sweet. There for
fathers dedication to the memory of my for fathers is a tribute to the
for fathers of every man woman and child in Missori, and youd better
beleive thats true. I will fight fore the honor of My home Missora, and
I ask that my Missora brothers have the forsight to march foreward for
the good name of our land Missori. Cry out fore you time for
recongnition has come!

My homeland is a proud one. Thats for certain. But when quote unquote
kings of TV put down my land, my blood boils for souls of the men who
fought for this land so many generations ago. I hold my head high for my
land, and i will see yankee pigs like you Hang in the upcoming judgment
day, which i have prepared for with my militia bretheren, while you
yuppies sit in your coffee bars drinkin your dandy de-caf latays and
eatin you Biscaties castin a negative image on us good hard workin

Not everyone here in Missouri Lives in trailers you know. I find it very
offencive and demeaning to be generalized in such a way. You are the
king of nothing in my eyes. Next time you want to bad mouth Misouri,
talk to me first.

I'd like to see some more of this bashing. I can only recall 2
instances in which they even mention the state. If that's making fun of
it "so much", what do you call what they do to organized religion?

Makes me wonder if ol' Abe is a Mormon: that might explain his antipathy
towards the "show me" state. (Although *most* of us don't carry a grudge
against Missouri anymore.)

Abe's not a Mormon; he's been seen at First Church of Springfield numerous
times.

Ah yes, but the last time I remember him in church, it was on the
Sunday where the sermon was "What Ned Did"... And, Abe, standing up
and shouting, "Let's sacrifice him to our God!.... Well, we used to in
the OLD days..." (still one of his best lines outside of his awards
speech).

It might just be some kind of twisted reference to the Mormons after
all...

Which started off another thread just about Missouri-bashing.
However, that's not the only state to get slammed by the show - and
I'm talking about lines, not just shows about, say, Knoxville.

How about the flashback to George Washington before he was attacked by
a silver-tongued Jebediah Springfield (before the name-change), and,
at some point, Washington uses a line referring to some scurrulious
people - perhaps pirates in general:

"We used to have those kind of people, we called them Kentuckians!"
(paraphrased of course).

So what other states besides Missouri and Kentucky? I'm sure there's
a whole crop.

How's about "Go back to Massachusetts, pinko!", said by Homer in the

Old Abe's shown quite a bit of antipathy towards the Unitarians as well.

=o= Lenny and Carl: "I hear they send this stuff [nukular waste]

Some thought this was a slam at Clinton, but in fact there are
at least three Southern states that qualify (crooked governors
using the state for a toxic dumping ground).

=o= They've made fun of the Massachusetts accent, via flashbacks
featuring John F. Kennedy. _King_of_the_Hill_ *really* made fun
of it. (Didn't one of these shows babble some "Taxachusetts"
nonsense as well?) .-. .-.

Interesting that Missouri has had almost the same number of mentions as
Finland on the show. My home state of Illinois has never gotten a
single [specific] mention...and no, that doesn't mean Springfield is in
Illinois...don't go there...;)

I believe almost half the writers of the Simpsons are from Massachusetts.
Texas is one of the most made fun of states, partially because they have more
executions than any other. I recall Chief Wiggum's, "No jury in the world will
convict a baby. Well, maybe Texas." He's also made a comment which I don't
recall too well, "We can't prosecute you for that, except in Texas" or
something to that effect.

Yea, that might not make sense, but who knows, maybe FCofS is a Mormon Church,
well, that doesn't make sense either, but who said the Mormon church made
sense? (no offense, and nothing personal Dale, or anyone else, but Brigham
